A week in Riga / Latvia

I will go soon to Latvia for a business trip and I'll stay for a week in Riga. I wonder if you can give me any tips about doing street photography there. Is it anything to avoid in this matter? Any special custom about photography I may need to know?

From other point of view... what gear would you recommend me to take in this trip? (Notice that I prefer to travel light...) D700 with three primes (24, 85 and 180) or D300 with two zooms (17-50 and 50-150) ? In other words, it is safe to take expensive gear or it's better to go with the second option? Keep in mind that I'll be traveling alone.

Hi Mihai, I went to Riga a couple of years ago. I had no problems with photographing Riga during the day. I didn't wander around too much at night. I have heard stories of dodgy clubs that should be avoided, and watch the taxi drivers, one or two tried ripping me off with my credit card ( Only pay with cash.) Rob

I was born in Riga and have spent "some" time there !
I would probably go for that d300 + small zoom. although - primes are the real deal for street photography.
Just try to stay in the old city or centre during daytime and you should be fine.
Unfortunately people have changed because of the crisis etc + it's super hot in there at the moment.
