Just wondering if anyone's got an idea about Acer Aspire One A150 Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz and is it worth buying or go for something similar?

it a nice laptop and will run pretty much any Operating system. a 1gb ram stick helps it along nicely but is a pain to fit as it means dimantling the whole thing(possible, but a bit fiddly). the screen is only 600pxls high which is a bit restrictive and the keyboard is smaller than a standard laptop. the battery life is a little low, but you can buy bigger batteries if need be.(expect bout 2 hours use ish)

having said all that im happy with mine and works fine, it will run corel psp albeit a little slow when doing the bigger, more intensive actions. i can run mine tethered, connect to the net etc...

what do you want it for?

Mainly on the train journey to work. Apart from using PS, want to load dot net etc and many open system software. So to say my learning companion. :)

depending on how long the train journey, i think you might need a bigger battery, which would put you possibly into the samsing nc10 territory which comes with a bigger battery as standard(not looked into it, just remember it being mentioned before).

I presume you mean this deal?

I went through the in's and out's of this and the Dell mini 9 and decided to go for the Dell mni 9 deal. It has bluetooth, webcam (doubt if I'll use it but the kids tried it), WWAN that I don't think the Acer had. It was £180 delivered.

It has a built in SD card reader so I have installed a few programs on that, I also have a 120GB portable USB sata hard drive so I can connect it up if need be and load/view pics stored there. Battery life is very good at a realistic 4 hours and the boot up time is very quick.

This is not a device that I would use as my main laptop but for those that work away from home now and then, perfect.

Any questions just ask.

I think the main reason the battery life is so low is due to running the sata drive all the time.

I have the Acer and find it great for surfing the net and checking e-mails etc. I have also found Skype to work very well on it with the webcam too.

I haven't tried modifying it and doubt I will as it appears quite complicated. For something to use on the move though it's great value.
