I've been meaning to get an acrylic print done, like this;

Click

or this;

Click

and I'm just wondering if anyone has had any done and can recommend a good supplier?

Also, I've been thinking about how best to light such a thing on the wall? Maybe some sort of solar powered lights since I don't have power running to where I would want to hang it. Would it look best lit from behind of in front? Any thoughts anyone?

Hi jon, Yes we use Illumunati and Dunns our lab supplies for internet orders.

http://www.luminati.co.uk/

We dont really like Photo sandwich/magnetic acrylic frames.

but if you like to have the photo printed on the acrylic then the best is Steve Sallaway at Creative acrylics.

http://www.creativeacrylics.co.uk/ He is one of the few firms that prints white ink onto Acrylic. Looks much better than a print stuck between 2 slices.

Sorry, I haven't had any done but thanks for pointing them out.

I was looking for a web based company that do quality prints and frames!

Thanks for the links. Creative Acrylics looks good! :thumbs:

Had a studio sample one done at acrylic pictures http://www.acrylic-pictures.com/ pricey but great quality.
Printed direct to the acrylic. White was left blank which showed the white background through - really 3D. Works really well depending on the subject matter.
Had another done the same with the talent looking directly at the camera - not good!
The eyes double up onto the white background giving it a 'spooky' look. Wasnt informed of this effect and had to pay for reprint with white backing.

I make my own for my clients but it's not nearly as popular a finish as canvases or float frames for example... possibly because the acrylics are significantly more expensive than the other finishes.

I print onto matt photo paper then bond the image to the rear of the acrylic with a special optically clear double sided mount film. You need a cold press laminator for this method though so not something you can do without the gear.
