I currently use a Canon 40D but have only ever shot in JPEG. I would like to start shooting in RAW but I dont think my editing software Adobe Elements 5 supports Canon 40D RAW. If I upgrade to Elements 9 will it automatically open RAW images taken on a 40D or a 7D if I upgrade the camera body as well.

Elements 9 is the latest version of Elements from Adobe, and will support both the 40D and the 7D.

In the meantime, you could use DPP software that came with your 40D if you want to start shooting RAW now. For final tweaks, you can save as a jpg or tiff from DPP for editing in Elements 5.

Hi Kim,
I am using PSE7 which works fine for Nikon RAW so I think you would be ok with PSE9.
Can't remember now but I may needed to download the free plug-in from Adobe for the specific camera.

For the initial Tweaking of raw images you will find that many photographers (myself included) use Canons DPP. When youare happy either save as a tiff or jpeg and fire it over to elements for more artistic Post Processing. I find that for about 80% of my shots DPP is enough. Just make sure you install you download the latest version which is much improved from the one on your original disc (which you will need to install the latest version) .

U will need to download the plug-in i believe. Wen i changed frm 1000d to 550d i had to download a new plug-in
