No
just been looking at lightroom..

why on earth do adobe charge more to download the program than actually sending your the retail boxed package? surely if anything downloading should cost less?

shipping = £227
download = £240

whats that all about? :thinking:

I thought exactly the same when looking for another copy of CS4. :thinking: I suspect it's just a "tax" on people who need to d/l it "instantly" and have no choice but to pay the extra...

Have you not learnt yet that Abode are a bunch of pirates, that's why so many copy Photoshop, knowbody minds a pirate stealing from another pirate.

Elements 8
Amazon UK £50
Adobe £75

The list would be never ending of how Adobe over charge for everything they produce.

You would imagine that as more and more people are uding Adobe software that prices would come down, but obviously not.

But i did like uening it when i had the trial.

It's a VAT thing nothing to do with Adobe being pirates.

Boxed item is UK sold and subject to UK VAT at 15% - Price without VAT is £197.39

Download is from Ireland and under European Law should be charged at VAT rate from the originating country of supply and not the country of the customer. Ireland VAT rate is 21.5%. Price for download with Irish VAT = £193.19*1.215 = £239.83 and presumably Adobe round up the pricing...

if youre going to offer it to a country then they should sell if from that same place so they use the same VAT rate. in my opinion.

cheapest place ive found so far is 165.

I'm sure that is your opinion but that is not how VAT works in the European Union for downloads. Not Adobe's choice but the EU.

No company is going to invest in separate server farms for each country. It used to be the case that VAT was charged at the rate of the customer's country and not suppliers but the EU changed the rules about 5 years ago. A real shame as the Irish had attracted loads of US companies who ran their download centres from there (Symantec are another) and have one of the highest VAT rates in the EU.

i know how VAT works, i work in the retail industy :) im just saying its a little unfair i would have to pay another countrys VAT rate. they could at least drop the ex VAT cost of the download so that it then works out the same price as the boxed version as im sure it costs less due to packaging etc. anyway im sure adobe can afford a couple of servers in a datacenter..

The problem is companies exist to make money, not to supply products cheap to people who think they should have them cheaper because they don't like the law. :dummy:

Of course there is always the option of downloading the 30 day trial, to get the software straight away, then buy the physical copy to get the serial number. I don't think I've even opened my Lightroom 2 box yet :D

that is true.. although i cannot see me buying from adobe with those prices. i need to buy more hard drives yet too.. lol

Lightroom hasn't been upgraded for ages (and the upgrade was a very reasonable price)

2.6 has only just been seeded as a beta.

So don't expect 3.0 in the beginning of the New Year.

LR 3 is available as a beta now. I think it has been around since begining of November.
