Like many here I'm sure, I took out a £3 trial 3 issue subscription to Advanced Photographer. It's probably written at about the right level for me.

But what about those "reviews" that turn out to be promotions - eg the Tamron 18 -270 zoom? I'd quite like to know how this lens performs, but then you read at the bottom its written by Tamron!

And in the current issue, an article about Joe Cornish making his own prints using an Epson printer and Epson Ultrachrome inks. ("Why? Well if you're going to take this difficult path I would argue why compromise") .... Funnily enough this appears in a section sponsored by Epson.

I know a lot of manufacturers like to use JC to promote their products - Lee filters, Paramo - but at least he and the manufacturers are honest enough to make quite clear they are adverts.

But in Advanced Photographer, you just can't be sure.

The issue of 'Advertisement features' is not unique to Advanced Photographer Magazine. In fact the same ad appears in this month's Digital SLR magazine. Its becoming a common technique and we just need to read the whole page more thoroughly. I suppose from a manufacturers perspective, its quite a clever way of advertising.
