Hey everyone

Im after some advice, a friend of mine is pregnant and wants some babybump pictures done, im really keen to do it as i think i can learn quite alot from it. Im looking for some help with poses etc, i dont have any studio equipment and only have a camera flash so was wondering if anyone could give me any hints, tips and advice??

Thank you in advance :D

in camera flash wont give good results IMHO .. can you use natural light from window on a nice day.. not only get rid of nasty flash but would have a real nice effect i think

Hey thanks for the replies, i was planning to do it indoors with my big lounge window on the right side of her as it gives quite alot of natural light, does anyone know how i can make a sheet background look 'ok' lol and what poses are good to use?

I used to use a sheet background a long time ago. If it is a bright day, hang it over the lounge window so it is backlit. Expose for the subject (spot meter) and the sheet will be overexposed - simple way to get a white background. You can use the clone tool in software to clean up any creases that persist.
Another excellent option is a black sheet, don't light it, just have the subject well in front of it and again expose only for her at no more than f8.
try some without any backgrounds, use household items like lamps, books, chairs as props (i.e. go for the Hello magazine look).
Reflectors are going to be invaluable, your white sheet will double up here and help out enormously.
Have fun, try not to feel pressured. look at the photos on a computer every so often and get your subject involved in the process of perfecting a pose. If you have Lightroom on a laptop use the facility for shooting directly into LR, they will come up on the screen in a couple of seconds, really handy when shooting with models.

technicalities aside, as long as you make the mum-to-be feel beautiful, special, and loved - you will have done your job to perfection.

I know it's a probably a hackneyed shot now, but the one of victoria beckham hugging her boobs and bump was reall beautiful. Maybe introducing the other half into it would make it really very special?

good luck, and would love to see your results :)
