I'm thinking of selling an unwanted iphone4 upgrade handset on Ebay but I'm wondering if I need to "activate" the handset before selling it, which would obviously mean having to open the box!

What I want to avoid is selling it "sealed" only to have the buyer come back and say they can't use it because it needs activating. It's on Orange if that makes any difference. Thanks

Shouldn't need to activate before selling, the buyer just needs to iTunes it.

Ok thanks, I suspected they would just need to connect to itunes and then use it with their own orange sim (orange annoyingly will not unlock for 3 months so it's will obviously be sold as "locked to orange").

Just be careful selling it on ebay, lots of people been conned out of their iPhones.

Don't accept electronic payment with someone then collecting the phone from you, if they want to collect make sure its cash on collection :)

I would definitely avoid selling a phone using any method other than Royal Mail Special Delivery. I'd also do the other precautionary things like only sending to a verified paypal address. I definitely would not be keen on the idea of cash on collection for something like an iphone, as that type of product can certainly attract a certain type of buyer if you are not lucky!
