Has anyone tried one of these little gadgets that attach to a compressed air can?

Not going to say exactly what I want to use it for, lets just say it involves a bit of expensive lens dismantling

Was going to use a rocket blower, but would rather remove the dust rather than just disturb it

Cheers

I personally prefer any kind of "blowing system" unless you work in a clean room.. Why??

Blowing - positive pressure - this blows dust out BUT prevents air / dust being sucked in.
Vacuum - negative pressure - sucks out dust but also draws in air and possibly dust, so unless you're in a very clean environment you're potentially drawing dust into your camera / lens etc.

Hmmm! how do you blow dust out without also blowing out air? :D
which the gets replaced? A soft brush is beginning to sound very
interesting

Tried one as an emergency when I forgot my cleaning kit on a trip and you would be more effective turning it upside down and blowing yourself! ;)

IMHO its simply not worth dismantling a lens to remove dust, and it'll never show in pics.

Chances are any sort of dismantling is going to de-center or move optical elements and you may not find you can't focus at infinity after re-assembly.

I'd leave well alone.

Was thinking of removing the front element and sucking out the dust.

Thought a rocket blower might send it elsewhere in the lens, but soft brush is sounding favourite

Looks to be a case of removing the ring seal, three screws and then removing the front element. Obviously it would need to be replaced in exactly the same position, but others have had success

Do agree that the dust probably wouldn't show up, very annoying just seeing it there though

got one in Spain last year to clean my low pass filter, total waste of money if you ask me.

I saw on a forum once were someone cleaned his sensor with
Scotch Magic Tape (the invisible stuff) It's supposed to not
leave any residue behind and would probably work if you could
look down on the element. If it's safe to turn upside down I
would blow it off carefully with a can of air..... got to be
careful not to blow out any small ball bearings etc.

Just to set the record straight DON'T DO THIS!!!" :nono:

I tried Scotch Magic Tape on an old lens and it DID leave a residue behind which in this case came off with lens cleaning solution!!

Just another example of the silly advice you can find on the net :cuckoo:

unless the lens was left in a dyson full of dust, it will probably not affect IQ, there is probably no need to get the dust out, it will probably move with time anyway, any dust i noticed is not there the next time i clean my lenses.
