I put my minolta 7D in my rucksack on Sunday, and went out with the kids. When I took the camera out the LCD display was cracked. I must have knocked it. The Konica Minolta website refer repairs to a bunch of retards called JP Service Solutions (Johnsons Photopia Ltd). They have a repair structure which is not dependant on the actual repair but on whether the equipment has been "missused". They reckon £320 and 6 weeks to repair.

I don't want to claim on my house insurance because last time I made a couple of claims like this in a couple of years my premiums went up by £500.

Any ideas?

On a different forum I was recommended these people
PJ Camera Repairs

10B Watlands View, Porthill,
Newcastle-under-lyme,
Staffordshire ST5 8AA

Tel: 01782 711990
Fax: 01782 712183

Quotes £140 + Vat inc pickup and delivery - nice people too. More sensible.

bummer news mate, but the second quote is much more reasonable

Does the display still work? if so live with it, maybe stick a pda protector on it.

I would chat to your house insurance, see what they say, and then make a decision on putting a claim in.

When we had house insurance (we dont now), but when we did, we were with Zurich, who, although didn't give a no claims discount, they didn't bump your premiums when you had a claim. This was contents only insurance by the way.

Are there any independant camera repair shops near you that you could try?
I take it the camera is out of warranty?

Don't suppose you bought it from Jessops and took out their insurance?
