Hi peeps!! I'm lending my dad my 60d this weekend to take to duxford! Now he has no dslr knowledge what so ever so trying to show him how to use av or tv setting will be to much to take in!!
So what would be the best setting for him to use! I was thinking the sport preset that would give him high shutter peed at least!!
Any ideas would be much appreciated!!

Depends what you're shooting really!

You'll be aiming up, so light won't be a problem for a high shutter speed. I'd try to overexpose a stop or 2 though, as the camera will be mostly exposing for the sky, so the planes may turn out dark. I just use Av for this, but standard or sport mode shoud be fine.

However, if you're shooting helecopters or propeller based planes, you'll want to control the shutter speed to get a bit of blur on the propellers, so use Tv mode for them. IIR, about 125th/sec works well for helecopters, but can't remember for props.

Hope that helps!

I will be at duxford too! Although I am a competent tog, aircraft can be tricky. Generally a shutter speed of 1/125 to 1/250 depending on type for props which are the ones on show this weekend.

Thanks folks but my dad has just informed me that he won't be borrowing my camera!! But I will take this guidance to the air tattoo with me!!

Apart from the awful weather I've had quite a good day with aircraft. I live about 2-3 miles away from RAF Waddington and we've had the Black Eagles over this morning (very low level), the Lancaster, the Red Devils and the Red Arrows and others practicing overhead. I could of got some excellent shots if I could see through the sheets of rain, but I did jump in and out between downpours to get some shots. It's nice and sunny now that they've all finished.
