I thought the baseball shot was pretty amazing. I'm guessing the photographer was placed with that shot in mind and would love to know how many takes it took till he had that ball sharp.

The girl reaching out to the coffin was a very strong image.

The jet planes spinning one behind the other is also amazing.

The one of Felipe Massa after the head injury too.....

Too many to mention really.
 
Chinese PLA march is gorgeous.

Mental patient being hosed with water is my favorite.

And the image of the volcano erupting taken from space is phenomenal.

Totally agree with the above. #39 as a parent is harrowing to say the least. Puts a lot of things into perspective...
 
Some amazing images there. I would agree about #39. Looking forward to the next instalment.

There is a very similar baseball one, albeit it nowhere near as effective, in the 2008 edition of photos, I've just noticed.
 
This thread reminded me of a TV program that ran for about three or four years around the turn of the year in the 90's - called something like "The Year in Photographs". It was an amazing program, it interviewed the photographer, subject or picture desk editor and gave a real insight to both the profession and the story. Every time the Christmas Radio Times comes out I look for it but the BBC have obviously decided to pull it. A real shame and an ideal program to resurrect on BBC 4?
