The guy is a legend. I wish I lived closer...

I really envy all you guys going. I have a few of his books and his work is fantastic. You lucky people.:)

this guy is a inspiration

I didnt check before to see if anyone from here was going, but I did go :)
Im to tired atm but will write up what I thought about him tomorrow.

It was a very entertaining night. I enjoyed it a lot.

Did he mention his Vietnam days when one of his Nikons saved him from an AK47 bullet?

No, but he went through his career in quite a bit of detail. He is quite a joker, it lightened the very sombre and disturbing things.

Any pics I saw of him always showed a stern look on his face. I wondered if that was due to to the things he had seen in war situations.

Think he has (partly) got over his past and sacking from the Sunday Times.
I've been a big fan of McCullin all my career but sometimes I wish he would stop repackaging his archive.
I'd love to see some of his unpublished work, and more of his colour images.

I thought the evening was excellent. I was going to say thoroughly enjoyable, but I don't think that would be entirely appropriate given some of the more poignant stories. One disappointment was that they didn't project his shots as he talked about them. Given that we were in the cinema and we all had a superb view I felt that was a lost opportunity. Don came across very much as a tortured soul, and the one message which ran through it all was that it's not all about the photography.
