Any Eizo experts out there?

I am a stills photographer (mainly outdoor on the hoof stuff) and, having a substantial budget to squander on some decent gear, I'm looking into an Eizo. Don't want to spend more than £1000 unless...

I have been on the Eizo product finder and am a bit confused about some of the features and how necessary people consider them:

Panel Type: VA vs IPS
Overdrive Circuit
Digital Uniformity Equaliser
Hardware Calibration - but would you still need a gadget besides?

What do their various product ranges work best at? e.g. FlexScan vs ColourEdge.

I want the best contrast and colour repro I can get for the money. Size is not an issue. I am on a 19" and it's fine but wouldn't object to a 22". 24"+ feels like it might overwhelm my fov.

Can someone who knows this gear well help me pick the one(s) to go for, please? I have had a CG241 recommended but liked the spec on the CG223W better (lower power and better contrast). Can only see the CG222W mentioned in the UK, though. Nice price, however, and tempting.

I thought IPS was better than VA. Eizo used to make excellent screens but I'm not up on the latest ranges.
 
Thanks for getting back who?. From the brief glossary on Eizo's site I got the impression, probably wrongly, that IPS is better for colour but VA for contrast. It also seemed that recent models are VA rather than IPS.

Is there such a thing as a "better" technology in this case?

Spent a couple of hours 12 months ago at Colour Confidence in Birmingham looking at monitor options. Looked at the various options and decided that the difference between several models wasn't worth the extra cash.

Give them a ring , and go and have a look. Reasonably impartial advice over the kit.

Alternatively Focus is a few weeks away, and Eizo are there. Had a nice chat with one of there reps last year, and got a follow up. CC are there as well.
 
Thanks for the tip, Chappers. Didn't realise CC were a "real" company. I see you're in the NW so would they be the nearest showroom for this kind of stuff? Can't seem to find anywhere in Manchester area. Sounds like a trip to Focus might be a good idea, I'll get onto it.

As far as I know Colour Confidence are one of the few companies that have monitors on display, that you can sit in front of and compare. If there are any others nearer than Brum then I don't know of them.In fact i don't know of any other company where you can do this

You might find others that Eizo might know. Have a chat to the Eizo account manager at Focus. ( very attractive young lady ) , Very helpful if you are a serious potential buyer.
 
That's a FlexScan, isn't it? I'm not sure what the difference in purpose is between that and the ColourEdges. What do you think?
