Any good Canon fit zooms for around £100?

Yes
I remember Jessops selling a Sigma zoom (I think that's what it was) for £99 a few weeks back but don't see it on their web site now. Could anyone recommend a good lens at this price, Canon EF/EF-S fitting with macro capability in the 70mm+ range. Also, any good online shops to buy lenses from in addition to Jessops? Many thanks.

I cant think of anything either, to get anything half good your taking 200-300... especially in the 70mm+ range your talking around £500

There is the sigma 70-300 DG apo, I had one but sold it as soon as I needed good photos.

The closest thing I can think of is the Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 APO - which sells for £150 ish. This is not a bad consumer lens - it has good chromatic aberation control and gives good colour reproduction. It can be a bit slow focusing (it isn't HSM) and can be prone to softness wide open at full zoom. This is markedly more pronounced on higher pixel count sensors.

There is a non APO version that sells for around the £100 mark, which is generally considered not that great.

Tamron also have a couple of options in that price bracket too.

I've always found warehouse express to be pretty good for lenses.

Seeking out a second hand Canon 55-250mm would be my advice. Will be more than £100 but about as good a deal as you'll get, IMO. :)

I'll rephrase the question: What in your opinion is the best available zoom lens at this price? ;-)

I was in the same position, and still am, technically. The sort of lenses for that price are -to put it bluntly- quite naff. However I took the option for buying an adaptor because I have a load of FD lenses... I'm not sure what other equipment you have but thats the path I'm taking.

I shall now watch this thread with interest to see what options do come up. Good luck with your search. =)

^ Many thanks for the link, and everyone's suggestions.

How about the Tamron 55-200mm f4-5.6 Di II LD Macro Lens? It doesn't have image stabilisation. It is as low as £80 on some sites. Anyone have experience with it?

I used to have one, excellent little lens IMO, only sold it to buy the canon 55-250 IS (which is in the for sale section by the way ;)). Only drawback with the Tamron I found was its quite slow to focus and the lack of IS, apart from that a great budget lens.
