Any idea what caused this?

Hi, all, I was out last night and thought I'd try my Pro Stopper. I saw an interesting opportunity and set my camera up, metered, etc and photographed.

After I uploaded it I noticed and darker line running from top centre to centre left. There's also a shorter line centre right to centre middle.

Any ideas what it is ?

Clicky linky.

Thanks.

An imperfection in the filter maybe, It looks like you've also got a few dust spots in there also though

Matt

I've never noticed it before, though

Dust slots = drops of rain....ggrrrrrr :bang:

Could be a contrail?
They can appear dark in some circumstances and maybe much less noticeable in a normal shot or naked eye

HHmmm, could be

I'll nip out again during the week and have another try.

Thanks for the quick feedback

Hmm, I agree with Matt, I can see the rain spots, but does look like there are a few dust bunnies too. Out of curiosity you haven't tried cleaning your sensor manually have you? Looking at the top of the image, where the line starts, and round the edges, even taking the vignette into account, there seems to be a lot of blurry grot, as if the sensor edges have got grubby. It is unlikely, but not beyond the realms of fantasy that the lines [seems to be two, one further down the picture] are hairs on the sensor....

Hi, just taken a few photographs @ f22 and there is indeed quite a few dust bunnies. I did a manual clean a month ago...bit scary...and I'll have another clean.

I might not have done it right.

Thanks.

Contrail that would make sense may have to test that one a little

Matt

Contrail...didn't think of that :bonk:

Can't open the pic.

I can't either - link appears to be scrambled - hopefully this'll do the trick:

Wondering what line top centre to centre left is?? by andysheader (Posiview), on Flickr

Thanks...I have no idea why I didn't post the BB code:thinking::thinking:

Did you cover or close the viewfinder when doing this long exposure? Sometimes light leakage can have strange effects reflecting light onto the filter.
