Anyone bought one of these cheap mixers?

Generally I like to spend a bit more to get quality - as my Dad used to say "buy cheap, buy twice". When I have bought cheap in the past the item has normally been poor in performance or broke quickly. I like the Kitchen Aid mixers but cannot justify that price tag despite knowing they are excellent.

I do bake, but only a couple of times a month, and don't attempt some things as there are things that a mixer makes far easier. Getting one would probably mean I do bake a bit more. Reviews of these seem to be very good.

We have the earlier 7L Andrew James mixer sadly now discontinued ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/Andrew-James-Large-Automatic-Silver/dp/B0076YG9D0 ) which we have had no issues with at all in the 6 years we've had it. It used to be used regularly but isn't used as heavily now, but has never let us down. Easy to clean, easy to use and reliable. Having had a number of Andrew James items over the years I can't think you'll have any issues with the latest mixer

Having splashed out on a KitchenAid mixer a few years ago, I can say that it's probably the best investment I've ever made on kitchen equipment. I expect it to outlive me! Keep your eyes open for special deals on them as well as extra bits thrown in as deal sweeteners.

a huge +1 we use ours all the time and its superb, its all about the direct drive motor innit :) plus I was never a fan of attachments with the mixer(s) we had gone through beforehand but we use ours loads especially the mincer and pasta attachment.. look out for deals ours was not only on a £40 off at John Lewis it also was with the free pasta attachments which are usually a fair price..

if you can afford it then it will not take long for the purchase to be justified.

Ours was over £150 cheaper than "list" and came with an ice cream making bowl and blade as well as a recipe book. Rather fetching electric metallic blue colour too!

There is also this one Simon. I also bake, but make all the bread doughs by hand. I also cannot justify the price of the Kitchen Aid mixers.

My Dad was a baker, he swore by Kenwood Chef, he had the same mixer at home for many years, never had any problems with it. They were much pricier back then, nowadays they have a much broader range, wonder if the quality is as good?

I have never even heard of Kitchen Aid, I just use cheap hand mixers myself.

My mother got a Kenwood Chef as a wedding gift and used it several times a week for over 50 years. The new ones aren't nearly as good - but arguably they don't have to be.

I got one of the £79.99 Andrew James kenwood chef copies, at first it was great.. I probably used it 20 times over 18 months and it just died. Went to switch it on one day and there was just a grinding noise but no movement. Since discovered that it's a fairly common issue with them.
I dumped it and bought a proper Kenwood Chef in a sale, remember that Amazon Black Friday is coming soon.
