Anyone got a link to the Nikon shutter count program?

Wish I hadn't found it as I've just worked out that I have taken almost 17,000 images in just under a year.

worked for me

2197 shutter releases, had the camera since march

Am I right in thinking that average life expentacny is around 40 thousand?

Depends on what camera. The Pro bodies have quite a bit longer expectancy as far as I know.

shoudl have said lol, mine is a Nikon D50

The average from my completely non-scientific non-efforty forum browsing seems to be between 50,000 and 100,000 but often in excess of that.

open a flickr account, upload a picture [the last one you took is usually a good idea] with exif intact, and then click on pictures advanced properties.... shows you how many shutter actuations. The account is free, you can keep the pics private, and if necessary just use it for checking shutter numbers! ;)

Cool! Just goes to show how much hammer I give my camera: 6884 shutter actuations in just under 3 years

Im sorry, I lie.. im only up to 10556 in.. *compares exif dates* 68 days. :help: So thats an average of 155 a day, every day. Im starting to slack.

Nice link

Mines 9391 on my D50, had it for a year now, need to take more pictures :D

6000 odd in a little over 6 weeks, but that's work for you.

I reckon about 75% of those go in the bin for one reason or another.

The joys of having to shoot jpeg!

Hi Rob,

Hi Messiah

:)

I have just purchased a used D70 with 8774 actuations for 200 delivered.

Thoughts?

Is there a program like this for Canon?

We haave another ocuker.. muahahah!
:D

Hello. Yeah, that sounds like a decent deal to me. The D70 is a very nice camera, and also does Infrared shots quite a bit better than most other Nikon cameras.

And you now an Underboss!

Congrats matey.

Glad you think its an OK deal...:)

only the pro canon bodies record the total number of shutter actuations. aside from that you just have to try and keep track of how many times the counter goes round. i think my 10D is on around 35K but i honestly have no idea, it could be 135K for all i know!

Good link Andrew...Thanks, 3495 in 26 months need to get out more rather than sitting here pp and making idle chat!!

Yv, wish you'd never pointed that out to me....

Holy thread revival!

Tried that and it works! 8000 clicks over 18 months on my D40.

what are you doing burst mode all the time

I'm starting to think that.... :)

Seriously though, shooting five features a week most weeks (I reckon I did about 210 this year - some days doing three features in one day) means the camera is always busy. My other body has about 10,000 shots on it since the summer when I got it so that works out about 220 shots per feature on average..... Not much when you figure in I'm shooting library material, cover options, main DPSs, 20-step sequences plus personal work every feature. I've probably chucked 5,000 duff shots this year but that's to be expected.

That kind of use is exactly why I went for the D2X as my main body - tough as old boots :)
