The only known cure is an IXUS.

SNAP, though more from the mouse than the camera!

I started suffering with this about 18 months ago. My GP diagnosed "Tennis Elbow" . As a sufferer himself he was sympathetic. It seems my case wasn't that bad, and really the only answer is to find out what causes it and to stop doing it (?)

It turned out that I was carrying my 5D a lot by the hand grip, and this seems to be the main culprit. I hadn't had any trouble with the 20D I had for several years earlier. It was just the 5D. I also don't get it with the 1Ds either, but this may be due to it being heavier and I use the shoulder strap most of the time.

The good news is that I started to use the shoulder strap more with 5D the problem went away. However recently I found myself reverting to my old habits and I got a quick reminder after a couple of days.

In all seriousness I have a similar problem with my left thumb. It can be quite irritating at times.

my mrs suffers from this, as we often cart two bodies at weddings
she bought herself a harness that fastens on and slings two cameras from straps, clipped onto loops fastened to the bottom of the camera.
she really likes em, and its helped a lot.
she uses a 5D with a 24-105, so a fairly heavy piece of kit for a little lass.
i will ask where she got it from.

if youre experiencing the elbow pain when on the computer chances are youve done what i did a while back and pinch the nerve running through the elbow by leaning on it too much.

chiro sorted mine out with manipulation. then a support under your high forearm to take the weight off the elbow.

Just been referred to a physio 2 days ago. Had back and neck probs for years, but my new found love of photography is causing me all sorts of gyp. Being hunched on the ground every saturday, then all day on the computer sunday.

No elbow problems yet though, but i own a 400d so, wait till i get a 7d + 100-400 and i'll let you know.

Hope your elbow gets sorted out:thumbs:

Sounds like bursitis. The sooner you do something about it the better.
That wiki picture looks exactly like my elbow did a few weeks ago. Far too much time on the computer and slouching in my chair, its not good ! :nono:

Another sufferer here, I've been the docs who gave me three choices:

1) Grin and bear it,

2) Take Ibuprofen

3) Have a steroid injection!

Do you have a hand strap on your cameras?

I found the extra support it gives me when carrying the camera helped a lot with my shoulder ache so I expect it would help with elbow too.

Nope, 20 years lugging kit and 600mm over the other shoulder.....

Get down the gym, leave the pies at home!!!!!:)

ps: I've never been down the gym either. Fed up with asking 'Do you play Rugger?'
Swap shoulders or you will end up looking like Gollum.

As for the pc work you should take a break **** 15-20mins... or so they tell us.

Trouble is when you get stuck into a job you look at the clock and 3 hours later.....

I had the same problem, and I think it was down to mainly mouse use/editing images, invested in one of these gel wrist rests (around a fiver), where the gel 'shapes' itself to your wrist.

It's certainly eased any discomfort.

Snap, I rested a lot on my left elbow, couldn't sleeps for a few weeks because of the pain, my bicep and shoulder muscles are quite heavy and this didn't help.

I had to change the way I edit, very difficult but the pain is gone.

Diagnosis by internet is pants - see a doctor.

David are you suggesting these guys are helping out the Human Fertility Dept OFFTOSS?

I did wonder now that the winter months are drawing in........

Is that similar to FSA (not financial services)?
BOT - with apologies to OP - I snapped an achilles tendon a few years ago and after using crutches for a while 'till the cast came off got Tennis Elbow.
Went to GP and got the steroid injection right in the elbow - ouch - came back again - second injection - came back again - gave up.
Time cured it (no longer using crutches). It never came back.

Infected bursitis can just come with no obvious cause - I know - it happened to me :(

Ended up with 6 weeks off work , 3 courses of antibiotics , and the darn thing opened and drained under general anaesthetic . Then the open wound had to be cleaned , irrigated and packed everyday for about 2 weeks till it was really healed. A most unpleasant experience .

Been getting painful pins and needles when holding the camera and using the laptop with shock-like pains shooting from my elbow or wrists to my fingers. Gets worse at night when I'm sleeping.
Went to the doctor and he says I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrone in both wrists from using vibrating power tools and heavy lifting in work. I go for my steroid injection on Friday and if that doesn't work then it's surgery. I know it's roughly 5 weeks off work when you get the surgery on one wrist but not sure if I will be getting both done at once of separate

Yes, I was diagnosed with tennis elbow a couple of weeks ago, very painful and the only way I can really use the camera is to use a monopod or tripod, even lifting a cup of tea is at times impossible and as for using a pepper or salt mill - forget it.

Have anti-inflammatory cream for a couple of weeks and if that does not work (it only helps a bit) it is physio which I have had for various injuries and have no faith in whatsoever for fixing anything, only for help after operations. He reckons the next step is an operation but I would prefer a cortisone injection - had those in my spine, shoulder and hip over the years and they have all helped for a while (even if I did need more than one in some cases).

That sounds awful

If I ever get Burtisis again, I'm straight off to see the doctor just in case, instead of self-medicating for three weeks...
