Someone just pointed out tvcatchup.com to me for watching live tv on your computer. I have to say it's bloody great!

Anyone used it to watch any footy? I'm looking for the best solution to watch all the world cup matches on my mac. WOndering how the fats action holds up on the feed

Unfortunately we don't get freeview in my area yet so tv tuners are out, also since analog reception in my area is absolute dog pants, so this could be the solution, plus it's free

Depends on your internet connection speed.
I've been using it for the past year, mainly on my iphone and it's really good, only getting an occasional dropout.

Does it allow live sport?

I used it untill recently due to the lack of freeview in my area. Works well enough all though the quality isn't great.

http://zattoo.com/ is an alternative that uses it's own software and also offers a slightly different choice of channels.

I use the iphone version, and I like it a lot! Pretty reliable too :)

if said live sport is being shown on itv or bbc, I can't see why not

I've used it for a while now, found it when the switchover happened and I hadn't upgraded the portable telly.

I've used the iphone version as well and both seem to work well with no real drop-outs.

i've tried it on the iphone and works great at home on wifi

mainly had it on watching the champion league last few times as wife had control of the tv LOL

but for those who use it on iphone, have you tried it on 3g data if so does that not use alot of data allowance?

I have to admit, I've not looked at data, but as my tariff is 'unlimited' (although subject to fair usage policies) does it really matter? Not for 2-3 months at least while they get upset about it. I don't use it huge amounts and I was 'borrowing' works wifi until they locked it down :|

how was it when watching the footy, was it ok?

Been using it for a 18 months or so now and love it, in fact watching it now. Live action isn't perfect but it is watchable imo. I have watched the F1 etc on there many times and it seems to handle fast moving action ok, in fact better than the live streaming from the iplayer.

it was ok. bit small obviously when they picture full pitch, but the commentating and roughly where the game is played on the pitch is good

then it zooms up for key moments etc so is fine.

no lag etc. can't complain

It's perfect for catching up with Rachel Riley on Countdown while at work.

I had no end of trouble getting iPlayer to work for the last Grand Prix, but TV catchup worked fine first time.

I've used it on and off if I want to watch TV whilst doing something on my desktop, seems fine. :)

Anyone know how legal it actually is. I know a couple of years ago it was apparently questionable but I assume it's "got" legal?

I think they use to offer a catalogue of recorded shows (much like http://www.seesaw.com/ does now) but without much permission, but have since changed to live streaming of free to air channels with permission as far as I know...and hence the name when there is no catchup involved.

If you take a peak at the T&C's it states that you must have a valid tv license to use tv catchup which is in essence freeview tv you can get on a physical tv. by signing up to the site you are agreeing that you have purchased a license and therefore it is legal.

It used to be decidedly dodgy however, as JL mentioned. :)

Seems they sorted that however. :)
