Anyone waiting on an out of stock item?

Yes
Just wondered if anyone else here is waiting on a backorder or on a waiting list?

I ordered a Canon printer a few weeks ago that is out of stock at every UK retailer, still nothing in sight.

Could be the Suez business, but thinks it goes back longer than that and possibly manufacturing delays.

Anyone else waiting a while for something?

I recently ordered a lovely new morse key, supposedly in stock but surprise surprise not. Was told next batch would be a couple of weeks (this is not something I imagine they sell a lot of, Vibroplex straight keys, so I doubt they order more than one or two at a time. However it arrived with me about 9 days after order, so I guess not much delay on stuff from the USA.

I ordered an Epson printer a couple days ago. I did ask the retailer a few weeks back about the stock situation and the waitlist is 2-3 months! So I'm waiting patiently, it'll be my first proper printer and looking forward to getting started.

Not sure what is on the big boat that got stuck but it would appear that the thing has been impounded until the owners pay up for the disruption it caused.

It goes back longer.

I needed a new printer a few months ago and there was no stock of any of the models I was looking at from Canon or Epson.

I gave up and managed to get an old one back in service.

I accept that home working probably used up stocks of cheaper 3 in 1 type machines.
Wouldn't have thought A3 photo printers were that in demand though.

I can imagine that manufacturing has prioritised home office / consumer models? and perhaps components are shared and have been redirected that way too... So, it's all bottlenecks I would guess

My guess is that A3 printers are lower volume - if the market has a problem then it doesn't take many customers redirecting their interest to cause a knock on shortage in other product lines.

Also both Epson and Canon have been transitioning to some new models.

The telling thing last year was that it was that on Amazon the alternative European suppliers listed either had no stock or long delivery times and some offerings from smaller suppliers were at (opportunistically?) very high prices.

You could see something similar happening in the bicycle market last year as well.

Can see the sense in what you're saying there, when I last spoke to WEX they were hopeful for mid April.
No rush, already have an A3 and A4 printer, but this one is more of an experiment than anything else.

Not photographic but booked my cycle in for service today and was told there was an expected 3 month delay on some bike parts ... fortunately not a problem for my bike.

A friend of ours wanted a new pushbike but could only find one or 2 that were suitable in each shop locally. Had to go up to Barnstaple (from Exmouth) to get what she needed. Oddly, e-bikes are plentiful and loads of choice.

Conversely I just placed an order with a tax-dodging retailer where I purposely ordered an item with a delivery date of June in with the things I wanted to get free shipping.... After a suitable delay I'll cancel the long-delivery item because it won't arrive in time  (and still get the free shipping from past experience)

So you are taking advantage of a loophole, sound familiar?

Sure am, but since they are taking advantage at a much more massive scale somehow I don't even begin to feel even slightly bad about it

I've had a canon printer on order for a few months now at WEX, luckily I got it cheaper than it ever has been.
Disappointingly a few other shops have had it in stock since so I don't know why they haven't. But I can wait.
Also waiting on another Nvidia 3080, and a PlayStation 5.

What model printer have you treated yourself too ?

I have ordered a Pixma IP8750, want to try it with 3rd party inks from day one.
Already got a Pro 10, but its getting very expensive just for a few prints every now and then.

Worth looking here, I got a kit for my Pro 100s, works well up to now and colours seem accurate. Just don‘t try refilling Canon yellow cartridges unless you flush them with Windolene. If you get any water mixed with the yellow ink it sets like jelly.

I reckon that the pandemic was having an effect on the supply chain long before the Ever Given got stuck. Talking of which - did the local pilot have his feet up at the time, or is the ship badly designed for the circumstances that arose, or both?

I work for a very large Electronics Distributor, and the Pandemic has had a massive effect on everything relating to the supply chain for electronic components. One of my Accounts is Texas Instruments, who supply us with products for a vast amount of markets including automotive, medical, military and the mass production of smaller consumer products. Last year, there were a very large amount of manufacturers that had been tasked with developing new ventilator units and it seamed like these were the only components that we were able to get at one point. Today, across a massive line card, we are experiencing lead times on components of 40 to 50 weeks. We have never seen anything like the levels of demand we are seeing at the moment and there doesn’t appear to be any light at the end of the tunnel currently.

At work (food industry) we've been hit with many shortages over the last 12 months. Covid, brexit and Suez all having an impact on imported raw materials. It's been a challenge!

Personally I'm waiting on a custom built fishing rod! Even though the blanks are UK made, the rod builder has been hit with supply issues. However I knew this when I placed the order and am perfectly happy with waiting as long as it takes.

I've been fortunate to get what I've needed over the past year, with the exception of a second Rode NTG3 mic. Delivery was pushed back a few weeks and now has no delivery date.

I have been waiting 5 months for a Bengal Tiger for our suburban back garden
menagerie. I am informed it is on 'back order' That Joe Exotic is to blame methinks ? :D

Last year I was after a Celestron WiFi device for my telescope, it was out of stock with an expected date of months. So I let it lie until now.

Last week I looked again, the expected delivery was 30-40 days. Nowhere I could see had it in stock. I emailed my preferred supplier and the response was that they were at the mercy of their suppliers and the times on their website were well informed. That same day, as I was resigned to not getting one for a month or so, and I was ordering something else. I idly checked the WiFi device - it was in stock. I ordered both items and they were with me the next day!

I did look at the refilling option, just know I would get fed up with all the messing about and would put me off printing.
Not paid anything yet for the ordered one and still got lingering doubts because I know it won't be as good.

even Aldi special offers are stuck on that canal blocker in Suez ,which has now been impounded :exit:

Oh no, what will people do without deep sea diving suits and mig welders to buy with the weekly shop

I finally sourced some more memory for my laptop, after waiting 5 weeks for Crucial to obtain stock I went elsewhere.
It doesn't look like the shortage of silicon is going to improve for quite some time either.
Scalpers are still selling high end graphics cards, Xbox series X and PS5's for silly money.

I'm waiting for four lenses but I don't think it has anything to with the ship getting stuck, it has more to do with me not having enough money for them ;)

or is the ship badly designed for the circumstances that arose, or both?

Or is there an issue with the canal not being suited to the circumstances that arose - the ship appeared ground fore and aft once it was out of the deep channel.

Or maybe an issue with the limits and restrictions on the sizes of vessels needing revision.

I went for the Canon PIXMA TS8350. Got it for £99. Think I'll be waiting a while yet.

After having a serious house fire in September 2019 I was lucky to get most of my hobby kit replaced mid February so I just snook in before Covid hit. The company I work for has orders to fulfil with kit from Japan, we've been told there's an 18 week delay even though we make the kit. It appears they can't get the specialist stainless steel they need. Methinks covid has really turned the world upside down.

I got a lot of cartridges for inksupply.com but not sure they exist any more. Their cartridges gave very accurate colours and didn't knacker printers. I'm fortunate in having an Xrite studio so I do profile my printer with inks from a new supplier.

It's not just the ships stuck / delayed because of the Suez blockage, there is a shortage of containers in China and a backlog of containers getting through our systems in the UK.

Oh no, what will people do without deep sea diving suits and mig welders to buy with the weekly shop
nope its cycle saddles and petrol cans according to this mornings lists . but what else is hidden in them containers ,very unfair of the Chinese to do this so soon after covid

Right now there are shortages of lots of components around the world due to factories being closed/closed down due to the pandemic. In work we recently ordered some electronic compass modules that are normally on 2-3 weeks delivery and were told that if we're lucky we will get some in October! They didn't say which year :giggle:

We havde also just finished developing a new product and started placing ordered for components for the first production batch only to find one item is on 4 months delivery.

There is a huge issue with there being a lack of empty containers in the far east. Every western port is overflowing with empty containers, The shipping companies reduced the number of boats last summer as there was a lack of production and a coresponding lack of sales from closed retailers, less containers needed so less boats. Its not cost effective to ship empty containers so there is a limited numbers going back. Some of the shipping companies are going to have to bite the bullet at some point and send boats full of containers east.

There are warehouses full of furniture that manufacturers have pre sold to business that they cant ship. We would normally have a warehouse full of stock and its currently empty.

Just had an email saying the Canon IP8750 I ordered is now in stock at Wex.
Originally ordered on 20th March, so not too long considering all the problems around the world.

Bah... My SP4800 is using a ton of ink to nozzle clean now every time I use it so I need a replacement. Looking at a P900 and Wex aren't getting that many through and have a "significant" waiting list. Every site that doesn't show it out of stock, is out of stock when I ring up... I wonder if things will start to clear or whether I should just get my name down with Wex or Park... (Do people do both, then pick the one that comes first?)
