Are DSLR Cameras Cool?

No they aren't cool they're geeky. Bronica SQAs are cool:thumbs:

Probably cool enough that some oike would try and nick it :(

DSLR is an expensive hobby but if that's not an issue then a DSLR is a great way to learn photography. Of course you can get started with a Point & Shoot or Bridge camera with full manual too, cheaper and less to lose should a 13yo get bored and find something else to interest him ;)

Nope, definitely not cool! But....ahem...."Am I 'bovvered'?!" :)

Weird question

From the point of view of a photographer then i suppose in a way yes...

in the view of your sons friends then probably not, small gadgety type compact cameras maybe

welcome to TP btw :D

Peering through a foot of lank fringe while playing WOW....is cool

DSLR's just aren't gonna make it, I don't think...:)

But ya never know..

My mate has a pizza oven in his bedroom. surely any kid would love that!

I'm 14 and my friends love my camera. Does that answer the question?

Cool? No.

Then again a DSLR should not really be bought for cool factor. If he is genuinely interested then don't worry about it either - a dslr is not something to be 'shown off you your mates'
At school I had a standard SLR (When compacts with aps & gadgets everywhere were all the rage). I was considered a bit of a nerd.

Gadgets are cool, untill they are superceded by the next cool thing.

DSLR wouldn't be cool in the conventional sence. However the finished pics could well be, something that the gadget cam may struggle to acheive.

You guys obviously haven't seen this yet. The COOLEST camera ever!

'fraid I reckon that of all the uncool cameras in the world of the uncool camera that's the un-coolest that I've ever seen!

Go for a bridge, cheaper, easier to use and if they don't take to it ou've not spent a small fortune. You can also give him something with extra focal range for a good price.

Fujishop, a refurb, £70 should do it.

Have just spoken to my 14 year old neice Sophie and she says she has no problem being seen with a DSLR with her mates and doesn't think that they would p**s take.

My 13 year nephew Callum (a chav), after seeing my 5D Mk II with Canon 70-20 2.8L IS, says a DSLR looks "pants" lol in his words and wouldn't be seen dead with one in front of his mates. He says it's also too big.

So that's the view from the Tann residence

Ha ha. From now on that white camera is going to be my defining contribution to TP in 2008 and 2009. I'm going to post it as often as possible :p Plus, it looks rather Christmasy don't you think?

cameras are not cool, only geeks use them and people think you are a pervert if you shoot nudes.
