is it wrong of me to switch to auto if i find a situation in which i have no time to compose the settings on the camera......or ami being a cheat!!!!!?

It's fine to do although most would switch to P or A as then at least you have control over things like ISO and flash.

If it means the difference between getting a picture or not getting a picture then do what gets you the picture.

I use P (sort of auto but still allowing me final control over the settings) most of the time. Cop out? Well, yes but the systems in most modern cameras are pretty damn good and if you're going to be relying on the in-camera meter, there's little difference between A, S (Av, Tv) modes and P mode (if you use the shift function to achieve the aperture or shutter speed you need/want).

I used P mode a lot on Safari recently when there was no time to play around. Means you get RAW, back button focus and AF point selection on my Canon, which are all things you can play with quickly.

Also, it minimises the chances of my 'creativity' creating crap pictures!
