I am getting a message prompting me to upgrade from V8 etc. to V8.5 free.

Anyone tried it.

Last time I took an AVG upgrade it was free - for a year then - they tried to get me to pay even though a free version was still available.
 
I have got it on a couple of my pcs.

No real difference except for GUI that I can see.

Probably just another rotation to try and get some more people to sign up for the paid version. Bit of a marketing exercise. Well worth upgrading to latest free one *** because they stop producing compatible definition updates after a month or so.
 
the free version is there but it prompts and hopes you just buy the upgrade!

I noticed this as well, the definition files would not update, prompting the thought that you needed to upgrade to the paid for version to get it to work.

All you have to do is upgrade to the latest free version. :thumbs:

Requires a bit more effort (updating manually) but then it is free.

I've upgraded, if a page is loading when the email checker starts up it interrupts my connection and I have to reload the page when AVG has finished it's scan :bang: Apart from that and the new GUI, it's just the same....
 
Have moved to Avast from AVG recently as AVG's server used to be down more frequenctly then needed. :shrug:
