backing up external HHD to external HDD

I currently store my photos etc on an external NAS HDD its a buffalo linkstation 1tb, I'd like to plug into it another 1tb drive and basically back everything up to this drive automatically.
Is there software that can be used to perform this task automatically say every day ?

do I need specific hardware to perform this task, I thought i'd ask the question before making a purchase

Any help, ideas more than welcome

I am also looking for this sort of software and having tried Synctoy would like to find something that could be scheduled to run at set times. Have tried using windows Task Scheduler without success.

Guess what I really want is Time Machine (Mac) for Windows.

I have an old PC set up as my backup device. It runs windows 7 so nothing different about the OS. It has 2 x 2Tb drives. One is shared on the network to receive backed up files. the second drive is not shared but has a copy of the shared folder. The idea being if one drive fails I may not have a working computer but I will have at least one drive with backup data on it that I can pull out.

Anyway to maintain that 2nd copy I installed PureSync which is free for personal use. I have it set to sync a few minutes after power on but it does have other schedule options. it is a bit of a resource hog when its running but it does the job. It can do network copies too. only downside is it is a bit of work to set all the options after installing.
 
i used to use allway sync but kept falling foul of the limits in the free version.
