backing up referenced Aperture files

To make space on my laptop I have put a lot of my photos on my external hard drive by relocating them however am I right in thinking they are now not backed up in the aperture vault because they are situated elsewhere? Do others here make back ups independently of the files that are off the internal hard drive?

Can't wait until can find somewhere to install a bigger hard drive(spoken to places here numerous times but they're useless, never call back)

I may be wrong, but I didn't think that referenced files were added to a vault, just the adjustments metatada in the Aperture library.
That way you can manage the backup of your referenced files via TimeMachine, or whichever backup software you use.

yeah the problem is time machine isnt used to back up stuff on my external. hmm maybe ill get another external to back the referenced files.
