Bandstand with city view

I like them both.

Had the first not have the shadows in the FG surface
it would have been a dull area… but it works with them
and for that reason, the first has the edge in my book! (y)

Thank you for the replies. Any suggestions to improve the pictures? I'm just starting to get my head around all the photography concepts, and I really enjoyed these as I could experiment different focal lengths to see the difference in perspective (pic 1 is at 30mm and pic 2 is at 55mm).

Lenses were the Sigma 30mm 1.4 and the Canon kit lens 18-55mm. :)

I certainly prefer the second shot, it grabs the attention far more than the first. Lovely lighting thought and great composition.

It isn't so much about "improving" as whether or not the captured image matches the vision you had for it when you first composed the scene through your viewfinder ;)

Personally I prefer the 2nd shot as it emphasises the bandstand better, making the fact that it's also got amazing city views almost secondary in comparison. If I had to get really nitpicky I'd say you could've cropped out the white blocky object at the bottom right of the photo - but overall I love the colours and lighting you captured!
