I am interested in trying my hand at time lapse photogrpahy.

I know I need some kind of programable intervalometer to automatically fire the camera at specific intervals. I have a sony A700 and was looking at getting this for 12 quid from amazon to take care of the automation

I know the basics of setting up the camera for this i.e use manual settings, take a test shot, make any necessary adjustments, shoot using jpeg rather than raw. Also I know I need some kind of software to put all the shots together.

Am I missing something as this seems to be a little too simple and I am sure I have missed something crucial here somewhere ?

You also need to make sure that your shutter speed is not too short else you will get a very jerky effect. I bought an ND filter for this very purpose.

for software google startrail.de, this is usually used for stacking multiple shots into a single one for star trails, but it also allows you to make an avi movies instead.

Got it but not tried it yet.

I also have one of those intervalometers, really good value. One this I did though, I accidentally cut the cable on the device, so being a bit of a "blue peter", I replaced the cable where it comes out of the case with a 2.5mm stereo jack socket care of maplins.
I added a plug to the remaining cable, works a treat. I have also just finished modifying a cheapo wireless remote that had a broken switch, so I can connect the intervalometer directly to the remote, so I can trigger the camera from in the warm !
