OK, I know that the Nikon grip, MB-D200, fits the Fuji.

I also believe that only the Fuji batteries work in this grip.

Can anyone explain why this is?

Do third party D200 grips also work with the Fuji (I assume so) and do they also require Fuji batteries to work?

If you can still find them look on Ebay for the "SIDO" NP-150 batteries - these are excellent.

Framerate is not improved by adding a battery grip. AFAIK that only influences the D300 and D300s.

Correct - same as the D200.

Nikon has never claimed any other grip apart from the MB-D10 - targetted with the D300 - will increase FPS.

The S5 Pro can do 3 fps with the "R" pixels disabled.

I have been using aftermarket batteries and grips in my S5 for the past 12months now and have had no problems at all...in-fact the batteries last longer than the original Fuji ones at a fraction of the price
