Yes
So 30 days after my lock was cut and my bike was stolen from Wimbledon station, my flat has been burgled and the only things they've taken are some cash and all my camera equipment and my passport :(

What a great start to 2016 :( :(

been through it a couple of times in my 43 years on this earth.. not a nice experience.

cannot offer advice but if I went through it all again I would make it a priority not to obsess with worry that it is happening again every time I was out/away, it ruined many a weekend away..

how did they get in?

Oh that's rotten Chris.....My sympathies to you! :(

Thanks everybody.

Didn't have the serials written down damn! Do have the boxes, are they the same serials as on the camera and lenses?

Remember that some info will be in your exif data of your pics.
I found your camera ID in one of your pics on Flickr with just some of the exif displayed.
Dedicated exif viewers give more info for lenses too.

Edit: sorry to hear your news.

Thanks. Waiting for police and forensics to come round and take prints so I won't tohch anything until then. Will notify the local camera shops too I guess. Dunno how they'll sell a 300f4 on to Joe public...will have to be a bit more specialised ie Gumtree or ebay

That stinks and hope you get things sorted. How much concern should one have about the stolen passport?

Report your passport gone ASAP too .

What a truly horrible start to the year

Feel for you mate, happened to me a few years ago cleared us out. These people really are the scum of the earth.

Horrible run of luck for you. Sympathy on the loss of your gear, hope your luck improves soon

know the feeling well ,we had a back door walk in while we were sat in the front room a bout 20 years ago ,and stupidly never took any notice of the two dogs going mad .things have changed now higher fences better locks and we take notice every time the dog barks .i would suggest its someone that knows your into photography though ,and the passport will possibly have been taken to help them sell it i.e proof of i.d with a new photo inserted

Sorry to hear about that. We had a big one a few years back. Hope you are insured. Oddly our loss adjucator was not interested in the boxes and papers I produced, and he can up with import valuations. We settled on John Lewis / Camulet valuations for the photography gear.

Only ever been burgled once, way back when I was but a teen, I had saved up my money and bought myself a new stereo only to have it stolen two days later

They had slipped a sash window to gain entry, all my windows have had locks on them since then

Sorry to hear about that, hope all gets sorted asap.

Bad news that
I got my garage done last year took £5000 worth of gardening equipment, police said I had been targeted because other valuable items had not been taken.
As it happens it was two days before christmas which is a quiet time for me.
Now rent a shipping container to keep my equipment in.

Thanks for your kind words everybody. I stupidly don't have insurance so that's the end of that. I'll be getting it now but I couldn't afford it before and just took the risk. Serves me right I guess but you live and learn. Have all the serials and given them to police but I'll have to do the trawling around Gumtree and eBay myself if I want to find the stuff which I doubt I'll find.

Just to get them down so I can link to it in the stolen gear thread:

Nikon 50mm lens - 965993
Nikon 18-200mm lens - 42168927
Nikon 300mm lens - 316795
Nikon D7200 camera - 4353443
Nikon 1.4 teleconvertor - 433223

Make a thread and list all that you lost and their serial numbers and then link to it in this thread: https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/the-stolen-equipment-list-thread.450516/

That way the rest of us on Talk photography can keep an eye out as well

Does your house insurance not cover them, even to a limited amount?

My did was burgled 6 times in 6 months when he was younger, so he got a big German Shepard, he never got burgled again ;)

Sorry for your loss, sucks balls that people think they can just take stuff you've worked hard to buy :(

Not sure how much cash converters have cracked down on stolen goods but I'd have a look down there too to be on the safe side. Especially with them having your ID to use rather than their own.

Yeah I've called them all to give them the models and serials. My passport has been cancelled but I guess that doesn't help because it's not like it will vanish into thin air just because I've cancelled it!

Changing tack abruptly, is that a sardinian warbler in your avatar Chris? Or a close relative? (Of a sardinian warbler.)

Physically no, but it will be flagged so anyone attempting to use that document number will have a little surprise (y)

Sorry to hear. Must be a horrible feeling. Hope the rest of 2016 goes better for you!

Very sorry to hear of the burglary. It's worth checking local or nearest city cash converter type shops. Most are honest but take in stuff unwittingly. Certainly worth checking Ebay/Gumtree etc.

Those hoping to prevent burglary 1) Try to make it look like you are there when you are not . Timers on lights, try to obscure windows with blinds at an angle, net curtains, get neighbours to put post through when out etc.. 2) Have an alarm if you can - even better if you can afford one that dials your mobile 3) Don't leave windows open - many burglaries take place or are assisted because there is already an opening to help entry 4) Lock your doors when in particularly if you have open driveways or entry ways around terraced houses - many creeper burglaries occur whilst people sit in another room watching tv 5) Have good insurance and make sure you fulfil your obligations (close windows, have locks to the required standard - many people agree to these things when taking insurance without doing it).

My sympathies - must be horrible.

I think, but can't remember how to search for or how to do it, that you can google with your serial number for photographs. I'm thinking the eventual buyer might post images and then you might be able to track your camera down that way.

Hope you get sorted out before too long.

It is yes, however it was in Mallorca.

Thanks again everybody. Keeping an eye on Gumtree, ebay, Craigslist but it's difficult because on ebay there are so many d7200s and it doesn't say where the person lives, plus they use stock images so unless I contact every single one it'd be very hard to find. All local cash convertors etc. have model and serial numbers as do the police, but that's all I can do. Thanks again.

Hold on Chris ,you can put in a search on e.bay for a d7200 and specify nearest to you as a search criteria ,that might narrow it down especially if they didn't grab all the bits with it I.e charger ,box,or anything else you can think of

But it doesn't tell you on ebay where its sold from does it? And if they use a stock image it doesn't help. But I don't use ebay so I'll have a look into that and you're right they didn't take charger or box. They could buy those cheaply though I guess to make it look like the full package

Can you not search for items sold within a certain radius of your postcode?
