I have recently started taking all my photos in RAW format.

Once processed should I be saving them as jpeg images to reduce the amount of space they take on my hard drive.

I store all my photos in aperture 3

I am a novice to this and no computer expert either hence the question.

i only now jpeg the ones i need to use, the rest are kept on additional hard drive in the raw format.

Raw is your digital equivalent of a negative from film days. You process it to make it look how you want then you have the choice of saving the result as a new file or always viewing it in your raw editor.
I save as best jpeg so it is easy for others to view. Some might choose tif for highest quality (but large file size). Whatever you do, just as with film, don't discard the negative (raw file). If you need the space archive it off to a backup but keep it in case you want to have a different edit one day.

Thanks for the replies, I don't have an external hard drive as yet so this looks like my next purchase.
