Hi all...

Not been out with the camera for ages but hoping to try some Aurora shots if it`s on show tonight.

As I`ve never really tried to capture the Aurora before I`m after some advice on the best settings to use to hopefully save a bit of time experimenting.

I`ll be using my Nikon D90 with 12-24 Tokina F4 so any info on the best settings (f-stop, shutter speed or times to use in seconds, ISO etc etc) would be very much appreciated.

Thanks. :)

Widest aperture possible, so F4 in your case, highest iso you're happy with for your camera (1600 ish), manual focus on infinity (use a distant light) and leave it on that. Tripod, remote release, bulb mode. Try maybe 20-30 secs exposure and check histogram, then adjust iso/shutter speed accordingly. Try not to be too underexposed as shadow recovery will create lots of noise. Try not to need more than 30 secs as you'll get blurry stars due to movement.

Excellent. Many thanks. Good info here... Hopefully they`ll make a show tonight and I`ll be able to try a few shots.

Really like your images from last night too...
