Biggest splurge yet - D90/Tokina 11-16

Great lens. I'm looking for the same one for use with the D700. I know there's a workround for the FF use, so looking forward to seeing how you get on with service/delivery from camerabox. :)

Ps Read the reviews, which did get better on the last few pages. Hope you get good service from them. To deal or no deal? Hmm

I've just spent four figures (just)
Ouch!

This is turning into an expensive hobby.
Now I just have to decide which limb to sell to pay for it all...

don't forget your £60 cashback from Nikon for the D90

That's a good set up- you'll be well impressed.

I hope you did your research and accepted the risk given your choice of vendor but what's done is done and I hope you get away with it.

No cashback, just low prices as the products are "european sourced"

if you used a Credit card you have some measure of protection SHOULD the items be delayed in shipping

if you used a Debit Card ........i would cancel the order now - personal opinion only as i think it is a mistake to do ANY on-line transactions with a Debit card

Just got my 11-16 today!! Good price, I thought, from Warehouse Express.

One of my first shots -

I have to admit to pressing the "Auto Smart Fix" button in Elements 6 - not sure what it does but it "improves" 50% of my phots (in my eyes).

I like the crop even more:

Have you touched that picture up at all?
Nice vivid colours.

Maybe I need to invest in *more* expensive glass...

I don't get to play with mine until tomorrow. My better half has been busy taking picture with it ***...

Well I registered the product with Nikon (not having received the warranty card) and sure enough I was prompted to confirm the serial number was correct as the item I was registering is a grey market product. I was hyperlinked to this page:

That is at odds with the Camerabox gumpf regarding the '3 year warranty':

http://www.camerabox.co.uk/FAQS.asp

So I have emailed Camerabox as follows:

Hello,

The camera and lens arrived yesterday, safe and sound. Thank you.

I do have a concern however. On your website, you state that you offer a 3 year warranty with all cameras and lenses. There was no warranty card supplied with the camera, which I expected because the camera has not been supplied to you by Nikon Europe B.V and Nikon state

"Nikon Europe offer a warranty service system for products which are sold via it's own distribution channels. If you own a Grey Market product it will have to be returned to the reseller or importer for warranty service. Refer to your reseller for service contact information."

There appears to be a discrepancy, because detailing the 3 year warranty on your website, you state that after the first 30 days up to 12 months after purchase, the camera should be returned to the manufacturer for repair.

Please could you explain to me, if after 30 days and after twelve months of purchase a fault occurs with the camera, the process for getting it rectified?

I would also suggest you make this a bit clearer on your website.

Thank you

That aside, the camera and lens appear to be in full working order and have been well packed.

As you don't have any warranty paperwork you don't know what Nikon subsiduary you need to return it to. Nikon UK wouldn't repair it under warranty - it would be a billable repair.

The first number of the serial number, usually gives a clue to where the camera has come from (generally US, HK, Japan, UK (Europe is usually the same, supplied by Nikon B.V.). Its probably come from Nikon H.K. I'd guess.

I should say that I have personally been able to get Nikon UK to service a camera purchased overseas (when I lived in Japan) - however that was a personal purchase, and therefore not a "Grey Import" (cameras purchased while travelling, provided if bought from an official Nikon dealer in a personal capacity are not Grey).

So your warranty is with your seller.

excellent shot (and choice of camera!)

having just bought a D90 myself I was interested in this postand had a look to see how much camerabox were selling them for and to be honest they don't look any cheaper than the competition , if the warranty side of things bother you could not return it then buy a UK one from somewhere else with cashback and free 2yr warranty ?

whatever you do hope you enjoy the camera , have fun !
