Bird hide conduct.Rant alert.

i had 2 woman approach the hide chatting in loud voices all the way in
then asked me if i had seen anything :suspect:

another one

last year when it was exceptionaly cold
when i arrived at the hide there was a bloke who seemed a bit mishapened.

naturaly i didnt look to close.30 minutes later as the light faded i heard some sort of weird mobile phone tone [or so i thought].

he oppened his jacket and had a baby straped inside to his chest in some sort of rig.

i thought it was bloody strange

They then tick the list and race off to the next twitch

So bird watchers are the passengers, just along for the ride, and twitchers are the train spotters? :)

My staff and wife call me 'Doc Martin'. Something to do with my abruptness at times I think.

The wife compares me to House. She says I'm about as sarcastic and short with people that get on my tits.

I very rarely go to public bird reserves, I very rarely use the hides on said reserves.Todays activities have reinforced my views.

Why is there always one git who wants to tell you his life story, his ailments and how bad a hand he got dealt by the good Lord above. Why do they think I give a crap about them seeing the psychologist, psychiatrist or any other medical person?

I don`t care, I am there to try enjoy myself and hopefully see something of interest other than swans or robins, the probability of that declines as your tedious, dull monotone increases. Does it not give the game away when I don`t answer your banal questions? When I don`t participate in the conversation? Are you really that thick skinned?

And if I move to another hide, and you happen along to the same hide. I still don`t care..................:bang:

Sorry, but I needed to vent some steam.

Sounds like the same sort of feeling that I'm getting right now....

I'm fortunate, I wear a hearing aid all the time, when I come across someone like that I usually just switch off and say sorry the battery has gone and I have no replacement ones with me. Experience tells me people really hate having to repeat themselves often.

has its advantages and disadvantages, sometimes meet people who are lost and approach ask where a particular place is and then when you say 'sorry im deaf can you repeat that' they say 'oh nevermind' (ignorant imo) and walk off hearing people dont know how to talk to deaf people as a rule but deaf people usually (not always) understand hearing people by lip reading

on the other hand it is very nice when browsing furniture shops electrical stores etc the sales staff see you signing with your partner and leave you alone to browse because most sales staff are under the impression it is too much hard work to talk to a deaf PERSON!

Every time they speak swear at them and twitch.

Then apologise, explain that you have tourettes and that it is brought on when people speak to you.

Aren't Bird-Watchers called Twitchers anyway?

NO, NO, NO! There's a big difference between a birdwatcher and a twitcher. A twitcher is an obsessive person who will rush about the country to see a new bird that has turned up, put a tick in his little book and rush off to see the next one, usually disturbing the bird and ruining it for everyone else in the process - they have no regard for the welfare of the bird and absolutely no regard for those birdwatchers who have been enjoying the bird for some time and even less for those who own the land on which the bird is to be found.

I'm a typical birdwatcher. I enjoy sitting quietly in a hide or walking around with my binoculars, watching whatever birds come along. I'm happy to spend all day just looking at our common birds.

If there's a bloke (or woman) in the hide who's getting on my nerves, I simply do a rather nasty cough and explain that I've not felt really well since I got back from Mexico!
