blackberry tablet? or not...

iPad is king, Android can/may/will catch up but not sure how long it will take. They aren't a huge amount cheaper so don't have the desire like Android phones do compared to iPhones.

The blackberry tablet world is too small with hardly anything available. It also works oddly

FYI I have the Asus Transformer and love it.

Press Reader - newspapers
Kindle - Books
Zinio - Magazines

Then there are tons of games and other apps.
 
take a trip over to crackberry website to get info on them pros and cons vs other platforms...the bb comunity are very critical as well as pro the platform where it deserves it.

version 2 of playbook is released imminently, runs qnx and it will support android apps so all in all a very good platform

ipad is good if youre completely non techie, android is still a geeks platform, playbook will be a good platform they just rushed it to market.

personally I like the playbook formfactor, dont own one as I have no need for one at moment. If your wife has a blackberry (version 6 or 7 software) then its worth it (assuming you can confirm the tethered data usage of playbook will be included in her phone tarrif for free;) )

So the blackberry is good as it runs android apps?

Android has the geek factor and iPad has the consumer market. Is there room for Blackberry in this?

Windows 8 in 2012 means Microsoft is landing in the tablet arena. We then have 4 players. The first to go will be Blackberry. Windows 8 may stop Android from cornering the market as consumers like the familiarity of Windows on a tablet. The top 3 tablet OSs will be iOS, Android and Windows.

HP has gone and Blackberry will also go. They don't have the market appeal they did a few years ago. Blackberrys are slowly being dropped from the corporate world, so why choose blackberry?

There is no email app or calendar app or BBM on the playbook, the calendar and email should be coming in the OS update, but BBM won't.

Mis-information? Not really, crap product with not a huge amount going for it.
 
didnt slag off any of them... bias babble based on what you or anyone else on here thinks is just opinion...hence I suggested going and reading the good and bad from those who actually own them.... unlike I expect yourself.

if the OPs wife likes BB with update to v2 the playbook will be what it should have been at release and may well be a good option to pair with her phone.. also the form factor is nice, with price drop now being offered if you want a tablet that compliments a blackberry then theyre a good choice.

my other comments are fair too. I prefer people to consider what they really want from something and will use it for rather than jump on the hype bandwaggon. e.g. windows 8...wtf has that to do with a decision of which tablet someones wife would like this christmas....nothing...its just your attempt to show how knowledgable you are about the subject when infact as is often the case a techophile misses the point..forget market share/trends of consumers as theyre based on market hype...go for what does and will work best for the person in question, what will fit in with what they already have or are used to.

I could waffle on about futures too like the qnx blackberries coming out next spring or the single platform for playbook and handsets etc etc... its irrelevant.

btw...HP's tablets sold faster than apple ipads when they dropped the price...classic example of how average joe knows nothing and when it comes to it cares nothing about futures, platforms etc..
 
The future will effect the app store.

Ipad has the most apps, Android has the next biggest.

Are the big companies going to invest time in apps for blackberry? With Windows 8 around the corner and likely to big in the tablet world (based on the average joe seeing they are something they are familiar with), are companies going to create apps for all 4 markets or only do 2 or 3? Android may lose out here depending on consumers and businesses. We may be left with iOS and Windows.

Consider what they really want is what I'm saying. Don't buy blackberry because you have a blackberry phone, think about the device, think about the apps and think is her next phone going to be a blackberry or will she change?

Are you talking about the firesale on HP tablets? They were all purchased by geeks wanting to get Android on to them.
 
blackberry will be supporting android apps...android wont be going anywhere...neither will blackberry. a tablet has maybe 3 years lifetime.. nothing significant will change in that time...go with what works best with what you have and want for christmas based on whats available in the next few months :)
 
thanks for all your comments...been pondering over this for awhile, wife has a blackberry torch, so should be a good match...ipad 2 is great with all the apps, but a bit on big side..
seen the blackberry tablet & screen is fab, video is fantastic, I know that there is not many apps for this, but hope that they will go into the android market , they say after Christmas
if thats true, the price for this tablet is about £250 now ...so not a bad price, a lot cheaper
than ipad...the asus was also a very nice tab....thanks mark..
 
Sadly you want it for Xmas, the Kindle Fire is another new boy on the pitch. 7" and has lots of pluses, but I'm not sure on the UK release date, but it will be after Xmas
 
V2 of the Playbook is due Feb. Its a nice size and as you say a really nice screen. I think it will come good but its just a bit slower than the others.

I have a samsung galaxy tab which I love, a good size compared to the iPads.

No its not

The Kindle Fire is nothing but a glorified e-reader and nothing more

Also Amazon have no plans to market it in the UK at this time

Free film rentals and I believe free book rentals in the US if you are an Amazon Prime member. As they own lovefilm, the same logic will hopefully apply here.

You also have amazon cloud player with free storage for all mp3s purchased from amazon.

It is more than an reader.

Yet it does lot a more than books???? Explain how it is just a glorified e-reader.

I believe Google and Amazon are waiting for the uk copyright law to change regarding moving content between media types (ie ripping CDs) which is currently being discussed before they release their cloud media streaming services.
 
You bought the kindle fire into a thread about tablets and a tablet in the sense of this thread the kindle fire is not

Tablets in the sense meant in this thread can do all the kindle fire can do and a whole lot more besides

Whilst the kindle fire may do the e-reading of books very well the rest leaves a lot to be desired

Maybe peruse a few more tech shows/write ups on the kindle fire perhaps?
