Book Recomendations

I've been looking around for a good photography book that will help me understand the basics of photography and help me to take a critical eye to my images.

As well as this I'm looking for a book to go through the basics of digital editing, light levels, etc... (again total beginner in this area).

The Digital Photography Handbook-Doug Harman-Photos by David Jones.

If its a really basic step by step book your after, I found 'DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY for absolute beginners of all ages' by Gavin Hoole and Cheryl Smith very easy to follow, costs about £6.50 / £7.00, based on Canon and uses Picasa, a free download to take you from the very beginning to editing, the simple way that everything is explained is very easy to follow.
