I am undecided as to if i like borders, are a good thing or not what is the ideal boarder or will it change from picture to picture.

thin
thick
two borders
3 borders
which colours
Mixed

The choice is endless do we have preferences " tried and trusted ones" or do we select the border and match it to the picture, i am lost on borders i just put one on, but the wife tells me borders can make a photograph, is this right..or are we better leaving them out all together.

I am undecided as to weather boarders are a good thing

The only weather boarders I can think of are snowboarders, and I think they're a great idea.

You know well what the OP means, I did not think we had the "speeling and gramma" polize on here..........

Borders, do your own thing, find a border that you like and use it.......

I go with whatever suits that image. Some pictures for me require a certain frame to suit.

If i was mass producing images as a pro would, i would most definitely go with one border.
Maybe a certain type for landscapes, another for weddings etc etc

As a rule I don't like borders.....I think they take away something from the photo.

JMHO.

One good reason for getting the spelling right is so the thread is found again when someone does a search either through the forum or google, etc. and equally doesn't appear as a false result in other searches.

That may well be the case, but, taking the **** out of somebodies spelling frailties is wrong, just my opinion.........:)

 a momentary lapse that lasted longer than a moment and i voted for you as well in the TP comp

Go with what you think looks best. I personally think every picture looks better framed, its helps guide the eyes into the picture. (thats what i think and i'm stciking with it :D )

Have a look through the Photo Critique and Sharing section, see what works for some and not for others etc.

 Sorry. Wasn't meant to be an offensive poke, taking the pee. I just couldn't think of anything sensible to say. ;)

There are no rules as such, but if the background to the image is a similar colour, or just pale, as TP's standard colouring is - then even a simple black line will stop the image 'bleeding' into the background. Black backgrounds really stop any surround having any effect on the image, but too large and they themselves can be distracting. Use the border to create a contrast edge and say 'Here the pic stops'

Somewhat off topic

We had spelling police queries a year or two ago that showed that one such 'offender' has had an accident resulting in mild brain damage meaning he lost the ability to spell well

For those of us well enough to see our mistakes it's easy to forget others may not be so lucky. You don't have to be a great speller to be a great photographer

Just think about others from time to time when posting at others' expense methinks

It's all personal preference. I don't like borders at all myself.
Don't feel that you have to have one if you're not keen on them.
