Wow, you are now officially my idol :p
Some inspiring work on your website.
Definitely enough to make me have a shot at this when I get some spare time!

Well tickle my fancy and call me Susie....those shots are brilliant! The creativity just shines through (pun intended...it's all I've got :D)
Welcome to Talk Photography Michael :)

I think this goes to show that there is always something new and exciting to get into with photography. My only concern is that this kind of work has been so heavily over-exposed on TV, with the Talk Talk campaign and others - but that is rather typical of the commercial end of creativity - as in "What's the latest thing guys?!".

(I for one was happy when X Factor finished and we weren't inflicted with that bloody song - "Neon Rainbow" ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

You do know that he is the guy that did the work for TalkTalk... ;)

I had a feeling that I may fall down that hole, but I was not criticising that work, far from it, I was talking about the crass over exposure of advertising. Mind you , I could always switch the TV off!!

I genuinely feel that the work is wonderful, beautiful stuff. ( can I come out from behind the sofa now?!) :)

I know exactly what you meant :) And to a certain extent I feel the same - I first came across Michael's work just over a year or so ago on a VW forum that he moderates and I was on. I'd never seen anything like it before - I had assumed it was some funky photoshopping, but then when I found out it was all done with torches and long exposures I was totally .

But when more and more people become aware of it and start copying it you start to become overfamiliar with it and the technique appears not as special as it once did. That's why I like Michael's stuff, because he always appears to be adding new tricks in to keep ahead of the game

Edit: Oh, and he's pretty good at the more traditional stuff too :)

The worst example I have seen so far is the one for Nescafe, which just looks like they wanted to use the technique, and came up with a really weak theme to apply it to.

I suppose we don't have to think too far back to the 'Matrix' effects copies.

I feel sorry for the true creatives, they come up with wonderful ideas, and then it gets exploited to the nth degree.

Stunning Dude!
What an inspiration to aspire too!

Welcome to TP! You will hopefully love this place!

Oh an don't mention Donkeys...

Welcome, Michael.

One golden rule; no photo shopping - when the shopping starts, it's bye-bye to authenticity...

This unwritten code of conduct amongst light painters is one of the things that got me hooked. For me it boils down to a couple of things:

* I don't get on that well with PP
* the technical challenge of finding a way to create the shot in-camera - in many respects, that's what gives the wow factor (amongst non-photographers and experienced shooters alike)

Aside from what Michael may (or may not ;) ) be prepared to share, look out for a documentary coming later this year - Luminary - in which both Michael and I feature amongst a mere 10 internationally renowned light painters.

I spent a couple of eves with the crew being filmed shooting and interviewed about tools and techniques so if this is a style of photography that appeals, it's going to be well worth checking out the film for insight and inspiration.

Awesome photos, from both Michael and Andywhynot

So whatever happened to him? I posted on a thread that he started and that has now completely gone. I wouldn't have thought a pro to be so touchy, what a shame his visit was only fleeting.

He hasn't gone, I removed the thread for a moderating decision, Michael is more than happy to be a member here

Ah good good. Would be nice if he could put the pics back up, I was really keen on them. They inspired me to go out and get some stop motion work done that I've been saying I'll do for a good couple of months.

Cheers Michael for the kick up the arse

I believe a link from me was the culprit of getting him registered here (that's my claim to fame and I'm not letting anyone steal it off me :suspect:). He started getting hits so got on here to reply to some posts! Hopefully he doesn't get addicted... we'll never see another photo from him again... RUN MICHAEL!

Well, if we're doing the claims to fame, I know him on another forum - saw there were a few threads on here about him so I pointed him in this direction ;)

Love his work - very imaginative and creative
