A charity cup final was played at my clubs ground last night and I was asked to take some shots so I turned up with the trusty 350D and 30 year old 70-210 f4.I was merrily shooting away for about 20 minutes when a freelance working for the local rag turned up with a 1D mk3,1D mk4, 300mm L series and 70-200 L series.
b****r I thought he's going to look down his nose at me,well not a bit of it a really nice guy chatting away talking cameras and technique and giving me a few tips.So the pro's are not always anti amateur and this guy was absolute proof of it

The 70-210 f4 can still hold it's own against some of the modern lenses. Very sharp, good colour and contrast, but maybe a little slow on auto focus. My son has one and I use it sometimes because i like the push pull action.

Don't get me wrong Gordon I love the old lens and 90% of the time its fine but at 8.00pm on a dull May evening I was hoping the Pro might offer to lend me his 70-200 L lens

Paint it white, put an f2.8 sticker on the side and just turn up the ISO, nobody will know.

time for an upgrade before they are superceded....:D

Exact same thing happened to me on Friday night. I shoot all Craigavon City's games and in our cup final I was sat next to Rick Hewitt who used to shoot for the Belfast Telegraph until he retired. He was sat with two 5D's with L glass and me with my wee 500D and Sigma 120-400. Had a great natter at half time and he's an absolute gent.
