.........good marketing or too daft/risky?

Personally, I give these guys a bit of credit. I run a pub and did this for my food in the early days. Of course I found that there were a lot of people (mainly hard-up students ;-) ) who took advantage of paying a lot less than the going rate, but I did find a lot of people paid the going rate and a fair few who paid over. Of course, for me it was a publicity stunt, and to introduce people to my new menu.

These guys have maintained a fixed rate for albums etc, (clever) so they need to produce good pics and have realy good sample albums so they can up-sell, what ever the client has decided to pay for their coveage and digital files.

Without attacking these guys (they have not asked for this!) I am curious what others think on their marketing stratedgy.

Thinking about it, perhaps this should be in the Talk Bisiness section?
Sorry to the moderators if it needs moving!

Very risky, but completely admirable!

I think (often naively) that there are enough good people out there for this to work. For instance, I recently got married and we paid a lot for our photographers, but they were worth every penny and I think if they were running a similar business model, and based on similar packages available from other photographers, we would have paid about the amount they charged. Maybe even more since we were so happy with what we got (the weather had a big hand in that too though).

There is of course a risk in that some horrible couple will get great pictures and pay £100. But I hope that if there is a market to implement this business model, it would be for weddings since people are resigned to spending, and hopefully are good hearted enough to pay what they feel is right.

Very brave doing it in a pub. As you say, students could have a field day. Did it work for you introducing people to the menu?
