Yes
Im' off to Poland and the Ukraine so going to take my macbook with me. I'm not sure what the score is with wifi etc...over there so i'm thinking of getting one of those broadband dongles which you just put in your usb port and you can get 'tinterweb'. Do these work abroad and can anyone recommend which one is best to get?

We have a couple of oranges one at work and they work abroad but they are not cheap when they are used abroad. You will need to check out which UK suppliers have the best access for the areas you are going to and in some countries you may find that one UK supplier has the best deal in one area of a country while another has the best deal in another area of the country. It depends on the telecom companies in the country you are going to and who they have teamed up with.

VERY expensive when used abroad, much much more than you would pay for internet access via a wifi provider out there.

agree - expensive abroad. which network are you on? Good prices from Vodafone when abroad in the EC but from experience I can tell you that calling from Ukraine is VERY expensive - I think it was around £1.50 per minute - so no idea what BB would cost - if it was available at all.

I used my Macbook with the Wifi in numerous places in Poland - Krakow and Warsaw. There is a fair amount of it about, and all the hostels I've stayed in have had it free for use. Even so, people don't seem to have cottoned on to securing it over there, and found numerous unprotected networks too!

Where abouts are you off in Poland?

I'm off to Krakow then heading over the border into the Ukraine. Going to Lviv and Kiev and possibly down to Odessa. Bit of a road trip with my mate for ten nights!

Nice one! :) I'm going back to Krakow again in September and November (possibly New Year too)..I love the place :D

Where will you be staying when you're there?

Well we are booked into Hotel Majeko In Krakow for one night and then we are booked into Qubus Hotel for two nights as we will be staying there on the way back from the Ukraine.
I love Eastern Europe and have been to Tallinn in Estonia about 15 times.

I also like Krakow and been to L'Viv and Ternopil in Ukraine. Have a look at the opera house in L'Viv if you get a chance - fantastic. When are you going? I was there in November and it is very cold then!

We have not really got much of an idea where we are going to when we get there. I have got a Lonely Planet guide so will sort it out on the plane i think. Gotta travel light as Ryan air is only 15kg luggage. Canon 40D - 24-105 and a 70-200mm. Thats my lot

I think that when I got me 3 USB Modem they told me that I could use it on my normal allowance in some foreign countries - no idea which but guaranteed not to work where you want to - but may be worth a question.

I have since come out of contract with 3 as free internet seems widely available wherever I go these days. Hopefully it is the same in Poland?
