Broken Lens?

Hi All,

Hoping someone can help with a problem. I recently sold a Canon 50mm f1.4 prime lens on ebay which has been returned with the buyer saying it is soft and unusable when wide open.

I've just taken a couple of test shots and indeed the edges do look blurred and a little soft.

Can someone cast their eye over the below pic and just confirm that this isnt normal behaviour for this type of lens?

i looks like camera shake to me. i'd try it on a tripod, perhaps outside on a fairly bright day so you get a fast shutter speed to rule out any potential camera shake.

if you still get this sort of softness, then i suspect it's probably taken a knock in the post.

What were the pictures like before you sold it?

Are they sure it's just not an incredibly shallow DoF that makes everything look OOF and soft? The demo pic looks to have some shake.....
