Whilst messing around with the cables behind my computer desk, I knocked my 19" LCD monitor off, and it landed on the deck with a bang!!

Now it seems to have a fault.
There's power going to it, but no display.
When I turn it on, I get a few seconds of Windows, then it goes off, and stays off. Strange.......

I've looked inside, but cannot see anything loose or broken.
Although tbh, I don't know what I'm looking for!!

It's not exactly a top notch monitor, and not covered by warranty/guarantee anymore.

Any advice?

Probably mourning it's demise ;)

Sorry fella sounds like you've damaged the backlight system.

If was inexpensive then it's abin job, not worth the money and hassle to fix.

Dropping it could have broken a soldered joint anywhere and there's a few voltages in a flatscreen that will make your hair curl.

If you don't know about LCD monitors and invertor boards stay out before you hurt yourself.

Thanks for the advice matey

you're lucky you didn't break the CCFL, it contains mercury, more likely as stated above you broke the inverter board

Can you elaborate on this a bit? You can see some of the windows startup? What Windows are you running (XP, Vista etc) and what screen can you see?

I had a problem where a Windows Update fubar'd my graphics driver. So I'd see the startup bits but when the driver started I'd get no display.

Have you tried starting up in safe mode?

Just an idea. I'd be tempted to borrow another monitor to see if that works?

He dropped the screen, not sure how an update would effect that.

Andy it will curl every hair on your body LOL.

Have a look at IIyama screens. I've had them for years and they aren't the most expensive.

Got a Samsung 24" widescreen last year never been happy with it :(

If the screen was Fubar I wouldn't expect to see a few seconds of Windows. It would either work or it wouldn't. :)
