I am off on holiday for a wek in April and although I know the area well and all the standard locations,Ffestiniog,Caernarfon,Betws Y Coed etc etc I am sure there must be some hidded gems around for a man with a camera.

So anyone who hails from that area any special places off the beaten track that you know of please let me know about them and I will try to do them justice

I was up in Betws Y Coed for a couple of days last week. A wonderful place to visit.

There are a couple of waterfalls very near to there. I will dog out the names and locations for you.

Take the A5 out of Betwys towards Snowdon. At the Ugly House turn right and immediately right again(10yards).You are now on a forestry road that takes you up and over to Llanrwst. At the top you can either park and head for Lake Geirionnedd or just explore-----Old mine workings and unusual views. The whole area is very photogenic and slightly different to the classic Snowdonia. To be honest though you are spoilt for choice the whole area is stunning. The slate mines at Blaenau are awesome if the light is right.
Enjoy-----maybe take those Stackridge CDs with you!!!!!!

Another good place is the Glaslyn river pass at Pont Aber Glaslyn on the way to Porthmadog.Park in the lay by and get yourself down to the riverbed--Great shots from the rocks in the middle of the river. There is also an old disused railway track on the eastern side that runs above and alongside the river for a stretch--tunnels the lot.Great stuff !!

No longer a disused railway track Wombat I plan to be there when the Welsh Highland Railway runs along here later this year but you are right especially in times of flood the Glaslyn valley and Gorge are great photographically

Sorry for getting back late.

I drove up from Swansea, asking Tomtom not to use any Motorways.

The drive from Swansea to Betws-Y-Coed should have been just about 4 hours, but I took it in close to 8 hours which is what I planned; stoppingat a number of picturesque points to shoot the odd photo.

Stayed at the Royal Oak in Betws-Y-Coed, a wonderful hotel.

The next day, I did a drive along the A5, from Betws-Y-Coed towards Capel Curing, there is the Swallows Falls. Then along the A4086 going into the A498 to Beddgelert. From there took the A4085 to Caernafron (where there is a nice castle, and Caernafron is a nice village to see too). Had lunch in Caernafron, then drove along the A487 towards Bangor then took the A5 back to Capel Curing and heading to the hotel in Betws-Y-Coed .

This whole drive is no more than 2 hours, going 10% below the speed limit. However, it took me the best part of 12 hours as I stopped in way too many picturesque locations (as has been indicated earlier, there are far too many).

As a matter of fact, I had to mentally keep telling myself that, in my lifetime, there is no way I can shoot all the wonderful scenes that I get to see, and I have to "let go" of too many. You will just have to choose the ones you like.

I wanted to go up Snowdon, but it wasn't advised at the time I was there. It was -5 in the day-time in any of the villages, frost was everywhere. Even the Swallow falls were closed to the public, but because of a notice saying "go at your own risk", I took the risk and went in.

In total, spent two night there, could have spent 2 life-times and wouldn't get bored.

When I was there last June I drove from Llandudno down to Tenby. Went down the A470 towards Betws-y-coed but cut it off by going along the B5427 towards Nebo. Going up the road you get a nice view of the valley on your right. At the top you join the B5113 and I was blown away by the scenery here, so different. Don't know why but didn't get any pics, must go back.

hi mate, i live about 5 miles from caernarfon, and i think that one of the nicest places to take photos is Chwarel Dorothea near Talysarn.
Its a non-working quarry and it is fully public so youll have no grief off nobody.
If its what youre after, there are broken buldings, old quarry machines and buildings etc.
The main attraction is a MASSIVE quarry hole that has nearly filled to the top with water and is very popular with divers etc.

Just search 'dorothea' in google and i should think youd get a good feel of the place!

Dion!
