Camera deals website?

Hi everyone,

Someone the other day mentioned a website, a bit like money supermarket but specifically for camera gear. My awful memory has forgotten both the name of the website and the thread it was mentioned in. :( Does anyone know of a site like this? I'm trying to get a battery grip (BG-E5)

:)

Plus it is often comparing fly-by-night grey importers with official UK dealers.....

Yes it does.

I Googled 'Nikon D300' and clicked a sponsored link for the Jessops website. It turned out £30 cheaper that didn't appear on the comparison site nor with the normal discount code that you can find on the net.

I could still do 'pick up in local store.' :)

Treat camerapricebuster as a guide but check even the higher priced items as the listings are not always accurate. They try hard but aren't perfect.

£909 for a D300 with Capture NX is pretty good

Camerabox are pretty good... except they didn't have the nifty fifty in stock when I tried them!

Camerapricebuster.co.uk now mention grey imports on some retailers.

I certainly use Camerapricebuster for my price searches but I agree they are not the be-all and end-all of price searches. For the Canon 50D they only have three prices listed and the best at the moment is £1200....

In contrast, Froogle (Google Products) has a few prices below £1,000 for the same product....

The price from www.play.com is £980 and you can get 4% cash back on that price by buying through www.quidco.com, making it £940 right now.

A very good point. It is unclear whether their prices include VAT or not. I know 7dayshop include VAT in their items priced at over £18 and leave it off for items under £18, which means you pay the price you see, plus postage. I'm not sure about Play.

If that's a concern then Bristol Cameras are listing it for £949 including VAT, which makes Play's price entirely feasible, including VAT....

I didn't want to leave things unanswered as far as Play is concerned so I browsed through their Ts&Cs here....

http://www.play.com/HOME/HOME/6-/Help.html?page=terms

and found this....

37. If your delivery address is outside of Jersey, you may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are levied once a shipment reaches your country. Any such additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by you. You should note that customs policies vary widely from country to country; Play.com advises each customer to contact their local customs office for further information.

I can't say I'm exactly thrilled by that information. I have bought small value items from Play in the past and it never even occured to me that there might have been tax/VAT/duty to pay on larger items. I guess they'll be keeping their stock of 50Ds.

EDIT : I have done some more digging and came across this rather more promising take on the matter....

I just spoke to someone at Play and she confirmed that the price you see is the price you pay for delivery to mainland UK. There is no additional VAT/Duty/Tax or anything else to add. If you want to check for yourself the number is....
