No
I've a camera with a non working button
It was bought originally from amazon but I got it used with amazon order details
Do I go back to amazon or manufacturer?

Neither, I suspect. Did I read your post correctly that you have purchased a camera from someone that originally bought it from Amazon?

If that's the case then was it sold to you on the basis that it was still under warranty? It is unlikely that the warranty is transferrable from the original owner to you - if it's your Nikon D90 then it definately isn't transferrable - so you may have to get the original owner to make the warranty claim for you.

The devil is in the detail of the warranty, I'm afraid :(

it's my olympus xz-1 compact

i've contacted the original owner/ seller and he said he's happy to help out.

but, wow i didn't realise warranty wasn't transferable on nikons. so it's useless on those buying used whether it's below or over 12 months old

I'm pleased that the original owner is willing to help you out. Buying used has it's risks but cameras tend to be better looked after than other bits of consumer electronics so on balance it's relatively safe.

I can't say this for certain (as I've never owned anything but Nikon DSLR) but I believe Nikon aren't the only manufacturer to restrict warranty to the original purchaser.

What's the definition of original owner, the one who purchases, receives as gift etc etc

Thanks
Well I purchased this several months ago with original purchaser buying dec 2011
At least original purchaser has confirmed he will help

Reading Olympus t&c, can anyone spot anything about warranty not transferable or has to be claimed by original purchaser?

I have a copy of amazon order receipt which has original purchaser details.

This guarantee is valid only if the Guarantee Certificate and proof of purchase are presented at the Olympus repair service station.

1.This Guarantee will only be valid if the Guarantee Certificate is duly completed by Olympus or an authorized dealer or other documents contain sufficient proof. Therefore, please make sure that your name, the name of the dealer, the serial number and the year, month and date of purchase are all completed or the original invoice or the sales receipt (indicating the dealer’s name, the date of purchase and product type) is attached to this Guarantee Certificate. Olympus reserves the right to refuse free-of-charge service if neither Guarantee Certificate is completed nor the above document is attached or if the information contained in it is incomplete or illegible.

I think the above is sufficient for them not to allow you to claim, as the guarantee certificate would be in the original owners name and all the details would pertain to his purchase of the camera and not yours.

Any claim under warranty would have to be done by the original purchaser as far as I can see.

Heather, I think you're right that the original purchaser is going to have to do this but in most cases the original receipt would meet the highlighted condition.

How many stores fill out the warranty card at the time of purchase? I've never had one completed but on the couple of occassions I've made a warranty claim it's not been an issue.

Thanks
It's not entirely clear

I have copy of amazon order details. Will send it off with camera as Olympus have emailed to say return it to them.

Update

I sent camera back to Olympus with amazon order details which the original owner supplied. Had his details but managed to claim myself as all fixed and returned
