Hi, not sure if this is in the right place! Feel free to move the thread mods :)

I've had my Nikon D40 for a month now and as I'm starting to venture out and about taking pics I'm worried that at one time or another I will either drop it or get it stolen! I had the camera bought for me for Christmas and havent got the cash to replace it so I need some insurance!

My sister was told when she bought the camera from Jessops that for 30/40 pounds I can insure it for 3 years on a damages, accidental replacement scheme.

Is this the best you can get or do you guys use another company that is cheap and reliable?

And also, I want it insured for theft as well as accidental damage!

Thanks

I agree that your first stop would be your own home insurance. Get it added to the all risks cover, but make sure the single item limit is what the camera is worth.

Thanks for the replies,
Im currently at uni living in shared accomodation so its a bit arkward when it comes to home insurance lol

I will probably go ahead with Jessops if this is the case, just thought there may be people in my situation who have managed to get a good deal on individual item insurance.

As has been said do a search for insurance as it's been covered a lot, it is possible to get individual insurance if you want it (something i've got to look into).

Jessops won't cover you for theft!

If you are at uni, check your parents (or other guardian?) house insurance - it may cover your belongings while you are in further education away from home.

yeah i will check with my dad and see if i can work it around his policy, sound like the best option.
cheers everyone:thumbs:

Whatever you do, DO NOT be "economical with the truth" with the insurance company - ensure that they are fully aware that you are away from home at uni. Not telling them the truth is like not bothering to have insurance, but throwing the value of the premium away:D

As others have said, if you do a little search on here there is a great deal about insurance, which you should find of helpful.

On the subject of Photguard, I use them and whilst I haven't needed to claim their service so far has been very good and I was pleased to find that when I added two new lenses and some bits to my policy a couple of weeks ago it was all very simple and it didn't cost as much as I thought either.

Mine's covered by my house insurance, here and abroad, though I'll be looking at specialist insurance too.

As has bee nsaid alreayd adding to house insurance is usually a good deal as long as the single item value fits within their limits. Will normally only apply to amateur use though so be careful.
