hi guys i'm starting to build up a bit more equipment now and was wondering whats the best insurance to use as my household insurance covers upto £1000

cheers ben

Hi Ben,

There aren't too many specific insurers for photographic equipment, as far as I can see. I insure mine with E & L Insurance on a rolling 28day basis. You can cancel the policy at any time without penalty and they cover travel abroad and theft from your car when left unattended. They appear very flexible - I've added stuff to my policy with a simple phone call - but thankfully haven't needed to make a claim yet.

You can get an on-line quote at www.eandl.co.uk/leisure-and-lifestyle/camera-insurance

HTH :-)

search the forums, lots and lots of threads. aaduki and photoguard tend to come out highly.

I heard good things for Glover & Howe so I chose them.

Have been with them for a few months, did not have to claim but they have been updating my equipment list (sometimes a couple of times a week as I am changing equipment as if they are underwear...) almost immediately and with a smile on the face.

ok guys cheers how much should i expect to pay cos i had a quote for £112 for a year to cover a giottos 9351b tripod and head, d90, mb-d80 battery grip, nikkor 70-300 vr, nikkor 105mm vr micro lens, and a 18-105mm kit lens seems bit steep to me?

What was the total value you gave them? I've got my renewal quote here, so I can see how it compares....

2500

Your premium works out at 1/22 of the sum insured, with Photoguard mine works at 1/28, which would give you, in theory, a quote of around £90

still seems a massive ammount of money, my contents insurance on my house is only just over £100 for a year and that covers £40,000 and £1000 out of the house lol

On a pound-for-pound basis my car and camera insurance is roughly comparable
