Camera shake?

Hi all

I went to the NEC bike show yesterday and decided not to take all my gear so I took my little Leica D-LUX 2 which is a lovely little camera, I kept it all on auto as I didn't want to be messing around and get on and grab as many pics as I could of the show.

I've come to look at my photos today and out of 100 odd shots more than half of them are ruined with camera shake, I have the anti shake switched on, and I'm certainly not aware of having shaky hands, so I'm totally stumped as to why this is happening, I took it to a retirement doo at a local pub the other week and exactly the same thing happened, over half the photos I took were ruined with the shakes again!!

I cant post the photos as I'm not sure how to post them and I don't have any flicker or anything else like that at the moment, and not sure how to re-size etc. etc.

Thanks in advance for any help and advice

Well, the first thing to check would be how long the exposures were. You should be able to get that from the EXIF information, or on the camera if you still have them on it.

Anti-shake can only do so much. Anything below around 1/30th is likely to have shake on a hand-held shot. The usual guide is to make sure your shutter speed is greater than the focal length you are using, so a 50mm length will need at least 1/50th. Best to make sure that your shutter doesn't fall below that. Open the aperture wider, or up the ISO, or both to allow for this. You can often fine something to rest your camera on if that still won't give your enough shutter speed.

Hiya m8.

just shot in the dark, but i had same problem shooting indoors and it turned out that as there was low light the camera chose a slow shutter speed to let in more light and the slow speed caused camera shake.

I may be wrong but that is what i found with mine.:)

Guys thank you very much for your reply's, I will have to have a practice session with this little camera and get used to it, with my Nikon I tend to use a tripod as much as I can, now you have said it, it makes sense, OK practice time with the little Leica
