I have been looking at the possibility of connection my D700 wirelessly to a tablet but from what I'm reading it cannot be done with many Nikon Pro cameras which use the CF1 type card mainly because a SD card cannot be fitted into a SD to CF1 type adapter......only with a CF11 card is it possible.
Does anyone have any other information on this or perhaps another method.
Thanks
Dave

Urm...now with a CF card, but you can get those wireless SD cards? That's probably as close to connected you're going to get at the moment

My suggestion is not to believe everything you read on dpreview :)

Nikons all the way back to the D1 can take CFII cards as well as CFI, and there are many people that report that the eye-fi cards work 'fine'* in a CF-to-SD adapter in a D1 or D100, never mind anything newer.

* The main limitation is that the (older) Nikon cameras power off the CF slot when not metering/accessing-the-card. You can mitigate some of this by increasing the 'auto meter off' (c3 usually) setting in the menus (which reminds me, I need to do that, as I'm pig sick of the metering display going off after 2 seconds).

Thanks Nikki so correct me if I am wrong please. All I need is a eye fi card to fit in a CFII to SD adapter this will then slot into the D700 and communicate wirelessly with a tablet....is it that simple!!
Thanks

The way the eye-fi works is that it connects to a wifi network that you have selected, and then shows it as a network location, from where you can get the photos off, so you need to be in range of a wi-fi connection to use it. If this is still fine, then you can go get one!

And that's where your problem lies, the D700 (and iirc the D3) has a slightly smaller CF card slot than other Nikon bodies, meaning that they won't accept the majority of CF/SD adapters...

Apparently so, yes.

The guy in this video is using a d3 + Eye-fi Pro X2,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZiHsCWLkdk&feature=related

he claims to be using this CF/SD adapter:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PhotoFast...AsAccessories_MemoryCards&hash=item3a591c74c0

There is also a video of a guy using a d700 in a similar setup, although the uploader hasn't stated which CF adapter he uses in that case, but if the powerfast adapter fits in a d3, it'll fit in a d700 :)

I suppose it *might* be possible that other CF2 adapters don't fit in a nikon slot, but there certainly are ones that fit, despite the posts I/we saw on the dpreview forums...

Range may not be as far as a Eye-fi would be in a native SD interface, but the chances are you're going to have your iPad fairly close by anyway.

Edit: Apparently, the trick to getting it to work in a d700 is to take the plastic shell from around the CF adapter off, may be a little too fiddly/risky for many...
